ICF’s Distributed Grid Strategy team is looking for a manager with distributed energy resource and/or distribution system experience. We work at the intersection of policy, markets and technology supporting utilities, public agencies, and private industry in their efforts to advance clean energy resources for a cleaner, more sustainable future.
Our team’s work focuses on the evolving capabilities of the distribution system and the integration and utilization of distributed energy resources. We are looking for individuals that balance strong communication and technical skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. The ideal candidate is an agile problem solver with strong strategic and project management skills who can help build a growing business and foster strong client relationships.
As a practice lead in the Distributed Grid Strategy team, you will plan, market, sell, and deliver innovative, best-in-class consulting services in the power sector with a holistic, multi-disciplinary approach that integrates strategic and technical advisory services to our clients. You will build and deliver a portfolio of work helping electric utilities to make strategic and investment decisions in areas including grid-modernization, electrification, and decarbonization. As part of your role, you will manage consulting assignments and support all levels of project staff, with direct responsibility for project management, client contact, and business growth.
This is a full-time position, and we are ready to hire immediately. Location is flexible.
What you will do:
Work with electric utility clients to tackle complex challenges related to grid modernization technologies and investments, including communication technologies and protocols, advanced sensing and control, operating technology and information systems integration, cyber security, and distribution system modeling and analysis.
Work closely with our practice leads and our marketing function to lead the continued development of ICF’s Distributed Grid Strategy service offerings.
Lead, coach, and share best practices with other ICF colleagues.
Establish yourself as a thought leader through external publications and presentations that showcase ICF’s technical leadership.
Manage technical consulting assignments, including outlining and drafting deliverables, managing the budget, and directing project staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, energy, or related disciplines.
4+ years of related energy industry experience, project management experience with multidisciplinary teams, and direct experience working with electric distribution utilities.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
Master’s degree in engineering.
7+ years of related energy industry experience.
Team management and building experience.
Experience working for or with an electric utility.
Prior consulting/commercial project leadership and management experience.
Experience engaging on key issues and trends related to distribution system planning
Working knowledge of distribution systems such as Energy Management Systems (EMS), Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) and Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS)
Experience with the dynamics of DER aggregations and their participation in organized wholesale markets and utility programs
Demonstrable experience in utility planning and/or operations, including regulatory filings and/or testimony.

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is :
$107,354.00 - $182,501.00
