Burning Glass Technologies Manager of Data Science in Boston, Massachusetts

We're seeking a Manager of Data Science to join our team which is driving innovation in education, training and hiring. As a member of our team, you'll drive delivery of innovations which power Burning Glass's sophisticated labor market data and solutions and transform the ways people plan for careers, colleges and universities develop talent, and institutions envision their workforce needs.

The Manager of Data Science is responsible for Burning Glass' data science strategy and approach, and the execution of Burning Glass' data science team. As a leader in Burning Glass data organization, the Manager of Data Science contributes to and informs the development of Burning Glass' data vision and roadmap. This position requires a quantitative but pragmatic problem solver and will lead a team of data scientists and analysts to solve product questions using mathematical modeling and deep learning techniques.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities for this role include:

  • Design, operationalize and execute the strategy for data science at Burning Glass

  • Build and manage the data science pipeline and roadmap

  • Manage the day-to-day activities and career development of Burning Glass' team of data engineers, data analysts, and data scientists

  • Collaborate with engineering leadership to develop a cloud-based data analysis process which can be deployed to rapidly test, qualify, and demonstrate new ideas with a high level of automation

  • Collaborate with product teams to understand business problems, develop clear testable hypotheses, and deliver results which push product features forward

  • Maintain independent relationships with senior leadership to support overall company strategy

  • Prepare and present monthly and quarterly reports for the executive team

Qualifications

We'll be most interested in your application if you have many of the qualifications listed below:

  • 3+ years experience leading a technology or product team, with experience creating and building successful teams covering all facets of data science including management of training and test data driving the process

  • Experience building and managing a data engineering team to build automated processes and tools to enable data-informed decision making and objective status reporting

  • Strong presentation skills, including the ability to clearly communicate status and results to technical and business stakeholders at all levels

  • Able to explore ambiguous or poorly defined problems, suggest acceptance criteria, and prioritize work to deliver projects on time

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Statistics, Economics or equivalent experience

  • Familiarity in cloud-based big-data tools and data infrastructure (e.g DataBricks, Athena, Sagemaker)

  • Familiarity with traditional data management and presentation tools (e.g. Excel, Tableau, Powerpoint)
