A Day in the Life

The Software PMO Manager works closely with RD and the cross-functional team to plan and deliver a regular cadence of software releases. These are high-priority, high-complexity projects that will significantly transform our Surgical Robotics platform, improve user experience, and deliver superior patient outcomes. This position requires knowledge of medical software development best practices and project management techniques, in combination with demonstrated leadership abilities. The Software PMO Manager oversees a small team of Project Managers to assist in coordination and delivery of these large initiatives.

Roles and Responsibilities

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

  • Lead all top-level software program planning and execution to ensure timely completion of tasks, within compliance to the Product Development Process and Quality Management System

  • Coordinate with all stakeholders to look across multiple active development projects and plan incremental features into a regular cadence of software releases (Software Release Planning)

  • Interface with all functional areas affected by the program including Engineering, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Service, and others as required

  • Monitor the effectiveness and performance of the program and project team(s) and facilitates the development of contingency plans and propose corrective actions as required

  • Apply and demonstrate management and organizational skills that results in a collaborative culture using clear, credible, objective and proactive communications and stakeholder management

  • Involved in the development and management of SOPs, Work Instructions, and other procedures that affect program management, and the software development process.

  • Review status of all projects and budgets within the program

  • Ensure accurate project schedules are developed and maintained for all projects within the program and prepare status reports.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

  • Manage a team of up to four (4) Project Managers who will assist in delivery of various aspects of the overall Software Development program

  • Accountable for mentoring, developing and coaching staff on meeting/exceeding performance expectations and defined objectives

  • Provide leadership to staff ensuring the prioritization of strategic and department level initiatives to include defining performance goals and targets

  • Conduct performance reviews, and staff 1:1s to guide performance management and employee development efforts and manage toward departmental goals.

  • Communication and Influence: Communicates with internal and external customers and vendors regarding ongoing operations. Uses information exchange, influence and active persuasion without direct exercise of command to gain cooperation of other parties .May interact on issues that have externally shared objectives.

  • Leadership and Talent Management: Leads, directs and reviews the work of a team who exercise latitude and independence in their assignments. Authorizes hiring, firing, promotion and reward within own area.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degreeand minimum of 7years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5years of relevant experience

Nice to Have

  • Experiencein the medical device RD domain

  • Complete understanding and application or Project Management principles, concepts, practices and standards

  • Experience managing embedded software projects (not IT based project management) required, preferably in an Agile Scrum-based environment

  • Expert knowledge of MS Project and MS Office, including ProChain add-on for MS Project

  • Full knowledge of industry standards: ISO13485, EN14971, EN62304, EN60601

  • Ability to operate and be effective in a matrix structure

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks/projects and manage priorities accordingly

  • Verbal and written presentation and communication skills

  • PMP Certification

  • Certified ScrumMaster

  • Class II/III medical device experience
