Facebook Manager, Software Engineering, FRL - Power in Boston, Massachusetts

Summary:

Facebook Reality Lab’s (FRL) mission is “To give people the tools to feel connected anytime, anywhere.” The teams working on augmented and virtual reality technologies at Facebook are on a mission to build the next computing platform centered around people. We continue to push the state-of-the-art with groundbreaking research into emerging technologies and hardware that will help bring this vision to life. We are building a team focused on building new products that support this mission.

The group is building out new devices within Facebook’s FRL with a focus on performance and durability in constrained, embedded environments. We are seeking a Software Engineering Manager to drive a key performance metric for our program - maximize the battery life of our device. A successful candidate will be able to bridge the gap between software teams, hardware teams, as well as other cross functional partners to identify opportunities to measure, monitor, and improve the power profile of our current product, as well as influence the design of future products.

Required Skills:

  1. Build and retain a world-class software and system engineering team through recruitment, mentorship, guidance, and career development

  2. Define and deliver on project roadmap and incorporate both strategic and tactical goals to ensure product success, in the short, medium, and long term

  3. Work cross-functionally with highly technical product management, software, and hardware teams

  4. Influence the entire software organization with best practices for power optimization to stabilize and improve battery life

  5. Support a culture of innovation to guide your team through identifying and delivering creative projects that meaningfully impact our power profile

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 3+ years of experience managing software engineering teams

  2. Proven track record of building and supporting cross-functional teams

  3. Experience hiring and mentoring junior and senior engineers across multiple disciplines and domains

  4. Experience initiating and driving complex projects to completion with minimal guidance

  5. Experience communicating strategy, tactics, and decisions across the organization

  6. Experience roadmapping towards key performance metrics in short, medium, and long term windows

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with consumer hardware development

  2. Experience with embedded systems and performance, especially battery constrained devices

  3. Experience with AOSP

  4. Experience with data pipelines, dashboards, and monitoring/reporting tools

  5. Experience sourcing and partnering with external vendors
