VMware New Grad - Advanced Technology Group - HPC Performance Engineer with ML in Boston, Massachusetts
The High Performance Computing/Machine Learning team within the Office of the CTO’s Advanced Technology Group is looking for a performance engineer who is passionate about HPC and ML. In the Advanced Technology Group, we focus on impactful near-term (1-3 year) co-innovation through better alignment and collaboration with R&D product teams, our global field technology partners, customers and external partners, startups, and newly acquired companies.
The use of virtualization and cloud for HPC and ML is a trend in the industry. As a performance engineer, you will gain exposure to cutting-edge HPC/ML and virtualization technology. Characterize the performance of a variety of HPC and ML workloads on VMware platforms, identify performance issues and work with R&D teams to reduce or eliminate virtual performance overheads
Act as technical collaborator in selected customer and partner engagements to run successful proofs-of-concepts
Assist in maintaining and managing an internal HPC/ML cluster
Masters or PhD in computer science or related discipline
Strong scripting and programming skills (Shell, Python, C++ or Java)
Solid system knowledge in Linux, storage and networking
Familiarity with HPC cluster systems, including interconnect, storage and accelerators e.g. RDMA, parallel file systems, GPGPU, etc.
Familiarity with system performance analysis, profiling and tuning
Familiarity with distributed computing concepts and familiarity with shared and distributed memory parallelism programming models such as OpenMP or MPI
Self-motivated with excellent communication and teamwork skills
Eagerness to learn new technologies, including open-source and commercial
Familiarity with Machine Learning workloads.
Familiarity with Linux kernel and OS tuning is a plus
Familiarity with cloud computing and container technologies is a plus
