Job Description:

The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) is the largest hunger relief organization in New England and among the largest food banks in the country. GBFB’s mission is to End Hunger Here in eastern Massachusetts, and our strategic objective is to provide at least THREE MEALS A DAY to everyone in need in eastern Massachusetts.

The IT intern would assist The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) with data hygiene and maintenance in our Salesforce database. Salesforce is used across the organization and was recently implemented to track donor information. As GBFB uses Salesforce as a repository for more data, we have a growing need to review and reassess our data entry standards. The IT intern will assist the IT and Data Governance teams with appropriate clean-up projects and updating processes.


  • Data Hygiene: Under the direction of the IT and/or Data Governance teams, perform clean-up projects within Salesforce or other related applications. May include reviewing for duplicate records, merging records, deleting outdated information, updating fields, and checking for and correcting data entry errors.

  • Create and Update Procedures: Review and update standard operating procedures (SOP) related to technology and data entry. May include testing current SOP and updating process within a document utilizing written instruction, screenshots and/or video.

  • Administrative Support: Executes basic requests regarding data updates and reporting for members of the IT and Data Governance teams.

  • Other: Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned by management. Serves as an active member of the revenue team, contributing to the refinement of processes and procedures. Provides on and offsite support for GBFB events and other activities as needed.

  • Proven ability to handle multiple and varied tasks, as well as plan and prioritize responsibilities.

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

  • Proven ability to work within an organization emphasizing teamwork and excellence.

  • Sensitivity, tact, diplomacy, and the ability to honor confidentiality.

  • Proficient in use of CRM database. Experience in Salesforce and/or Blackbaud systems a plus.

  • Experience and comfort working with technology and various database systems.

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office programs with strong experience in Excel and Word or SharePoint.

  • Genuine appreciation of GBFB’s mission and the ability to communicate it.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit minimum of 3 hours.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
