Splunk Principal Software Engineer, Blockchain - Remote in Boston, Massachusetts

Role:

Since 2017, Splunk has been investing into the DLT and blockchain space. We have built tools and experiences for early technology adopters looking to answer difficult questions from their data and traditional enterprise users with sophisticated needs. We are now looking for a senior engineer with deep interest in peer-to-peer, cryptography, tokenization, analytics and observability. In this position you will work at the intersection of distributed systems and data on a small team building solutions for many customers. At Splunk, we invest heavily in innovation, and are currently seeking a software engineer for our Blockchain and DLT team to join a smart, tight-knit team.

About You:

You are a developer with experience building enterprise solutions, cryptography and distributed systems. You have been working in the DLT space and realize the potential of this technology and data insights. You will design, develop and support full-fledged cryptography-backed distributed systems anchored to blockchains. You will collaborate with a team of engineers, QA, UX and customers to create groundbreaking solutions.

Responsibilities:

As with any fast-growing company, day-to-day responsibilities will span the product development flow and include deep interaction with customers, sales, and engineering.

  • Design and deliver groundbreaking experiences mixing enterprise software and best of breed innovation from the cryptographic space

  • Collaborate with product, engineering, QA, support and field teams

  • Engage with customers to provide ad hoc help and support sessions

  • Work alongside all other teams at Splunk, impacting the reach and impact of our solutions to understand the world through data.

Requirements:

  • Building, observing and operating distributed systems at scale in production

  • Experience Auto-scaling, Infrastructure as code, automated monitoring and reporting

  • Experience delivering and supporting sophisticated enterprise projects to production

  • Experience of development and operations of peer-to-peer systems

  • Experience developing solutions within cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)

  • Experience working with Docker and Kubernetes

  • Experience with Typescript, Python, Go, Rust and other languages

  • Experience with Agile and continuous delivery methodologies

  • Experience of collaboration involving TDD and pair programming

  • Experience with instrumentation, logging and metrics, networking and cryptography.

  • Designing and implementing libraries and programming APIs

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both spoken and written English

  • A self-starter, who is comfortable in a highly dynamic environment and prepared to engage with others to drive overall team direction

  • Mastery of data high-availability, scaling and performance

Desired skills & experience:

  • Experience using Splunk, SPL and building Splunk apps

  • Familiar with the Ethereum ecosystem, Quorum, Hyperledger Besu, or the Baseline protocol

  • Contributed to multi-chain blockchain frameworks such as Polkadot or Cosmos

  • Hands-on experience of working with Solidity, chaincode or other smart contract languages

  • Practical experience of running a blockchain client or miner

Education:

  • Bachelors, Masters or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent practical experience
