Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineering Manager in Boston, Massachusetts

The Commercial Software Engineering (CSE) team is a global engineering organization that works directly with customers looking to leverage the latest technologies to address their toughest challenges. We work closely with our customers’ engineering teams to jointly develop code to solve their biggest challenges and to accelerate their organization. We work in collaboration with Microsoft product teams, partners, and open-source communities to empower our customers to do more with the cloud. We pride ourselves on making contributions to open source and make our platforms easier to adopt.

We are hiring a Principal Software Engineering Manager with deep experience and expertise designing and delivering solutions using modern software engineering practices for the cloud. Your team will solve exciting business problems and collaborate with Microsoft product teams to improve our products, ultimately to make it easier for developers to use Microsoft platforms. We source our ideas and designs by maintaining very deep connections with these product teams and open-source communities and the customers and partners that use them. Our teams provide deep subject matter expertise to our customer engagements. You will lead a customer facing team of subject matter experts focused on application development combining engineering best practices with industry standard tools, products, and services.

  • Working hands-on with your team and our customers through design and implementation, setting examples for good engineering practices, technical influence, and coding along the way.

  • Based on real evidence, defining, and executing the team’s engineering investment in the modern cloud application development space to address platform and product gaps.

  • Exhibiting technical leadership across the broader CSE organization, with the Microsoft Product teams and the OSS community.

  • Model our core values and be a mentor, coach, and advisor to the team.

  • Continuously improving our ability to deliver quality solutions through iterative improvement to technical capabilities and engineering processes.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Technical leadership in the modern cloud application development space.

  • At least 5 years of experience shipping or running production software.

  • Expertise in at least one mainstream programming language.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Solid software design and coding skills across multiple languages and paradigms.

  • Understanding of distributed messaging and cloud data technologies.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work across and outside of company boundaries.

  • Strong expertise in working in an agile development environment applying DevOps practices using a multitude of tools and services.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure, AWS or similar cloud computing platforms is preferred.

  • Experience working within and directing geographically dispersed, diverse, and virtual teams

  • A Bachelor or MS degree in Computer Science, a related discipline or equivalent experience.

  • Enjoy potential future travel and are comfortable with travel up to 25%
