Principal Technical Program Manager – Apps and Experiences

Are you an experienced engineering leader with depth in Microsoft cloud technologies? Are you excited about the opportunity to directly help customers with novel problems? Can you identify important technical insights and influence Microsoft’s product team roadmaps?

The Commercial Software Engineering (CSE) team is a global engineering organization that works directly with customers looking to leverage the latest technologies to address their toughest challenges and transform their businesses using cloud-based solutions. CSE and customer engineers collaborate to understand customer goals and create production-ready solutions. Our code-with approach gives us deep insight into the challenges customers face with Microsoft cloud services and we learn about emerging customer scenarios and requirements.

As a Technical PM in CSE’s Digital & Application Innovation team, you will collaborate with a Development Lead to lead an engineering crew providing technical subject matter expertise. Your team will focus on solutions that leverage each of Microsoft’s clouds, including Azure, Dynamics 365, and Microsoft 365. You will help craft team strategy, develop insights that you share with senior leaders in Microsoft’s cloud engineering teams, drive execution with customers, and create solutions to improve engineering capabilities within CSE and Microsoft.

This role requires incredibly strong communication skills, with an ability to talk with, and translate between, business stakeholders and the most technical engineering teams. You must have the experience and maturity to effectively communicate with and influence engineering executives. Success requires strong leadership behaviors, the ability to create data-driven insights, and superb collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a Development Manager to define team strategy, drive execution, deliver results.

  • Create great outcomes for customers and the CSE engineers working with those customers.

  • Develop new capabilities within CSE and Microsoft, ranging from engineering patterns to example code to formal training materials.

  • Share lessons and insights with product engineering teams to influence improvements to our products and services.

  • Use data to prioritize scenarios, development work, and to support insights.

  • Collaborate with other senior members of the team, including other solution areas and technical domains, to share insights, practices, and data that can influence the decision process on customer engagements and Microsoft clouds.

  • Continuously drive excellence in technical program management fundamentals to build our shared best-practices.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

We are open to all backgrounds and are looking for candidates with demonstrated ability to deliver on the responsibilities for the role.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years program management experience including shipping complex production systems that run on a public cloud or hybrid public/on-prem solutions.

  • 2+ years in a lead engineering / technical role driving demonstrably impactful results.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong technical program management (TPM) experience on cloud engineering products / projects.

  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills with focus on creating positive, trusting relationships with other Technical PMs, engineers, customer business and technical staff, product engineering teams, and Microsoft field teams.

  • Demonstrated expertise with agile engineering approaches, especially in the role of Product Owner.

  • Ability to define and solve complex problems, communicate to senior decision makers in a clear, compelling way, and drive decisive action in partnership with others in a large organization

  • Strong cloud computing knowledge, preferably with Microsoft’s cloud platforms, including Azure, Dynamics, and Office.

  • Proficiency in creating technical reports, white papers, or case studies.

  • Experience working within and directing geographically dispersed, diverse, and virtual teams.

  • Enjoy travel and comfortable with regional travel up to 25% of the time.
