Do you want to enable the discovery and use of high-value content and resources that can change lives? The Product Manager – Discovery and Identity is responsible for connecting learners to library resources by supporting the development and management of technology and content initiatives at Gale that increase the discovery, use, and value of Gale offerings across all markets. We need an innovator to help us level-up our reach in discovery and improve our range and ease of access and authentication. This role helps shape the future of identity and access at Gale, letting learners discover Gale anywhere across the research landscape and removing pain points on their path to becoming fully privileged users. Ultimately, you envision a roadmap that leads users through identity, authentication, authorization, and personalization, with privacy at the forefront and a continuously improving user experience as your north star. Working in an Agile development environment, this position embraces concept work, builds and supports investment cases, and works closely with software developers, external partners, content architects and engineers, and other stakeholders to define specifications and ensure quality throughout the development cycle. The ideal candidate understands the future of library discovery and authentication systems and has a passion for helping Gale’s library customers be successful, while embracing the needs of the ultimate customer, the end user.
What You’ll Do:
Conceptualize and implement innovative technological approaches to the discovery of Gale resources that ensure seamless access to Gale content throughout the user workflow, and use data to measure results and communicate value to both internal and external stakeholders.
Enable learners to find and use relevant content where and when they need it, through your familiarity with library discovery systems, metadata standards, APIs, and authentication solutions.
Serve as primary business contact with external discovery partners, and define and implement roadmaps to maximize the discoverability of Gale resources within partner systems. Escalate partner involvement for customer-facing teams providing technical support for discovery issues when required.
Develop and define technology specifications (information architecture, user interface, features, tools, and content) in a platform-centric fashion so that components can be leveraged across multiple product families.
Work with Director, Product Management, as well as external partners, software developers, UX, content engineers, marketing, sales and customer engagement, and other departments to ideate, develop, test, and iterate new offerings or refinements to existing capabilities.
Fulfill the role of Product Owner in regular standup meetings, planning sessions, and retrospective reviews during active software development projects. Prioritize support issues, bugs, and enhancement requests.
Stay versed in industry trends and devise ongoing product improvements and monitor and mine product analytics such as usage metrics, Google Analytics, satisfaction data, customer feedback, competitive analysis, and market research.
Support the Sales Department by conducting in-person and online training sessions for inside and field reps and by conducting customer webinars. As necessary, accompany sales reps and represent Gale at trade shows and conferences.

Skills You Will Need Here:
Bachelor’s degree or extensive experience in a related field.
At least two years of progressive experience in product management, software development, publishing, the library or information industry, data analysis, education technology, or the equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
Experience with discovery of and access to paywalled or restricted content.
Experience with library metadata standards including KBART and MARC and library metadata repositories including community knowledgebases, and familiarity with emerging standards including KBART Automation and Open Discovery Initiative.
Familiarity with library link resolvers and OpenURL standards.
Familiarity with content APIs and their use and potential for content discovery.
Familiarity with library authentication and authorization solutions including proxy and federated access and SAML and OAuth standards.
Proven ability to participate effectively and influence cross-functional teams without formal authority—including the management of external partnerships.
Basic financial and budgeting skills to manage budgets and develop investment cases as input into product decisions.
Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as diplomacy in order articulate relevant information to both technical and non-technical audiences and senior leadership.
Working knowledge of standard company software (MS Office, etc.).
Product management or technical experience in identity and access management (IAM).
Strategic focus on personalization and its capacity for differentiating and improving the user experience.
Experience defining product specifications and working with software development teams.
Occasional travel to trade shows and customer visits, up to 10%
Ability to travel by both auto and air
