Meta Production Engineer, Storage in Boston, Massachusetts

Summary:

Production Engineers at Meta are hybrid software/systems engineers who ensure that Facebook's services run smoothly and have the capacity for future growth. They are embedded in every one of Facebook's product and infrastructure teams, and are core participants in every significant engineering effort underway in the company.Production Engineering for Storage is responsible for the reliable and efficient scaling of what’s possibly the largest fully private object storage fleet in the world. We are the custodians of the world’s memories; all images, audio and video from our global platforms are stored permanently here. We also support storing and high velocity analytics across all of our properties’ oceans of data, and a complete backup and disaster recovery solution set for the entirety of Meta. As a Production Engineer, you’ll work across distinct teams within Storage to drive best practices, cross-team alignment, and prioritization around projects that impact the entire space as we merge multiple distinct purpose-built offerings into a single merged storage fabric with world-class efficiency, performance, security, and operability.Our team is comprised of varying levels of experience and backgrounds, from new grads to industry veterans. Relevant industry experience is important, but ultimately less so than your demonstrated abilities and attitude. We sail into uncharted waters every day at Meta in Production Engineering, and we are always learning.This position is full-time.

Required Skills:

Production Engineer, Storage Responsibilities:

  1. Write and review code, develop documentation, operability features, capacity plans, and debug the hardest problems, live, on some of the largest and most complex systems in the world

  2. Partner with the best engineers in the industry on some of the highest scale stuff around, the code and systems you work with are full production systems supporting our billions of users all around the world, with APIs consumed directly or indirectly by most engineering teams across the company

  3. Drive improvements in efficiency, operability, scalability, performance, security and privacy across multiple distributed teams while merging their systems into a single sustainable global storage fabric

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 10+ years of experience in UNIX and TCP/IP network fundamentals

  2. 10+ years of coding experience

  3. Experience learning development languages (PHP, Python, C++, and Java)

  4. Experience learning software, frameworks and APIs

  5. Experience performing 'guerilla capacity planning' for internet service architectures

  6. Knowledge in internet service architectures (such as load balancing, LAMP, CDN’s)

  7. Experience in configurating and maintaining of applications such as Apache, Memcached, Squid, MySQL, NFS, DHCP, NTP, SSH, DNS, and SNMP

  8. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
