In this role you will be responsible for the establishment of a well-designed and comprehensive productivity and efficiency program for Takeda's R&D operations.
OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE
Develops and ensures execution of R&D Productivity and Efficiency program, building the framework, aligned with functional and business unit projects, initiatives and commitments, to drive operational efficiencies in business processes and connectivity across R&D and the broader Takeda organization.
Develops and executes analytical and tactical strategies to ensure business projects and milestones are completed in a timely manner, compliant with Takeda and R&D policies. Provides direction, solves problems and builds alignment across the organization to ensure cooperation and delivery of the initiatives.
Drives organizational planning and implementation of prioritized activities across R&D that impact budget and resources supporting R&D functions.
Plans program meetings e.g. steering committees and workstreams, in line with the program’s strategic agenda and ensures the rhythm of business is aligned with that across all R&D, particularly around key goals and governance reviews.
Ensures alignment of productivity and efficiency implementation strategies and plans with other functions within R&D and other key business partners e.g. IT, Procurement, Legal , Quality and EHD and other corporate initiatives. Responsible for management of KPI and FY goals for the program and internal and external program communications.
Develops and delivers a sustainable culture and brand for R&D productivity and efficiency that engages the organization.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Partner with R&D leaders to establish the current state of productivity and efficiency initiatives, building an inventory of ongoing programs and the benchmarks internal and external, that are being used. This will include all R&D functions end-to-end and to build a baseline for the organization.
Define a simple, intuitive framework for multi-year productivity and efficiency target-setting and a process to incorporate goals into the resourcing processes. This work will be done collaboratively with Finance and other R&D global business partners.
Monitor and track progress toward productivity and efficiency improvements, intervening as necessary to ensure that the organization is on track to meet or exceed its performance targets. Provide insight in evaluating overall productivity and efficiency performance over time and for future planning.
Develop and implement efficient and effective communication programs regarding the productivity and efficiency efforts.
Define and convene governance for the program including facilitation of Executive and Operational Steering committees and underpinning work streams and ensure engagement and ownership of the program by the functions and groups across R&D.
Assume leadership of specific initiatives defined within the overall program.
EDUCATIONAL, BEHAVORIAL COMPETENCIES and SKILLS
12 + years of relevant business experience required; Pharmaceutical experience preferred
BS/BA degree with MS/MBA preferred
8+ years experience project management and leadership experience
Operational experience in pharmaceutical drug development with significant direct exposure to clinical development
Senior management experience in pharmaceutical industry and/or clinical research, biotech or related industries or related field, influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders
Proven track record of leading and driving business process transformation and organizational culture change as well as delivering on programs with complex business deliverables
Health care business acumen with a comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical industry
Good understanding of communications, operations, legal, IP, finance, accounting, tax, HR, compliance, facilities management, EH&S, with the ability to navigate these varied disciplines and develop effective and cohesive strategic and operational solutions
Comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, drug discovery and development processes and R&D operations
Breadth of knowledge required across therapeutic areas, global functions and enterprise partners
Excellent communicator, able to persuasively convey both ideas and data, verbally and in writing, able to distill complex issues and ideas into simple comprehensible terms
