Risk is present in all of Santander’s activities and effective Risk Management is a critical component of the Bank’s success. Through application of the Bank’s Risk Framework and the continuous identification and assessment of risk, Santander seeks to ensure that all of our businesses operate inside of clearly established limits, are able to proactively quantify exposures, and take corrective action when required. As a member of the Risk Management division, you’ll be part of a diverse team of talented professionals who interact with senior risk team personnel, business managers and other Bank disciplines in order to understand business operations and dynamics, and analyze, monitor, and manage related risks.

The Risk Manager will be responsible for managing the various activities relating to risk management performance within a single risk domain within a single business line. The individual will manage a team that works to identify, assess and action various risks throughout the assigned business line by executing a defined risk program. The manager role will oversee the evaluation of processes, review internal control/ quality reports and participate in initiatives and lead opportunities for improved efficiency, effectiveness and/or risk reduction. This role will hold governance routines to report and escalate as necessary to executive management or corporate risk partners while driving to institutionalize a cultural awareness of risk management practices. The manager will also be a source of risk management knowledge who will coach a team and business partners to educate and offer advice/ guidance. This role will also interact will all lines of internal risk management peers including other first line of defense teams, corporate risk functions and internal audit.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Participate in risk management proactive exercises either sponsored by 2nd line of defense or within division's risk program

  • Responsible for all aspects of people management such as selection and hiring, performance management, coaching, recognition and retention

  • Manage risk program execution aligned to a single business line/ risk domain to meet defined schedules, and provide guidance to analyst team

  • Manage a team of Sr. Risk Analysts for BSA/AML

  • Manage Central KYC Manager for Commercial Banking and oversee functions of team

  • Contribute as necessary to ensure team's quality assurance goals are delivered timely and are reviewed to meet quality requirements

  • Ensure a consistent product is delivered

  • Act as a risk management knowledge resource who enhances corporate training adherence through coaching exercises within a single business line and recommend enhanced training opportunities

  • Challenge risk teams to innovate and expand risk metric program to yield best portfolio coverage/ management

  • Consult (and influence corrections) with management regarding risks, exposures or control profiles and maintain contact with 2nd line of defense

  • Implement design corrections/ improvements as needed

  • Execute and manage Commercial Banking AML and risk governance routine and attend similar first line of defense's governances

  • Lead the development of risk management strategies that drive identification, quantification and mitigation of risk within the business, while providing acute depth of knowledge or influence

  • Manage the collection and reporting of metrics for Commercial Banking for related risks

  • Manage the relationship, within a single business line and risk, between similar other first line of defense risk teams as well as contribute to satisfy Internal Audit demands.

  • Bachelor's degree; MBA preferred

  • Previous management experience preferred but not required

  • 7 years of relevant experience

  • CAMs Risk certification preferred, or willingness to obtain

  • Effective decision making skills on complex matters

  • Ability to mentor and lead team members and identify skill gaps

  • Sound understanding and experience of implementation dependencies to include execution and risk factors

  • Strong communication skills to assist in influencing and directing a team and/or collaborating with various stakeholders

  • Organized and able to multi-task

  • Strong understanding of BSA regulations and KYC

  • Commercial Banking experience preferred
