Citizens Risk Metrics Sr Manager - ERM in Boston, Massachusetts

The current opening is for a ERM Risk Metrics Sr Manager within Enterprise Risk Management . ERM is responsible for overseeing the implementation of Citizens’ Enterprise Risk Management Governance Framework (ERMGF) and for specific enterprise-level risk management programs that span the organization and risk categories, including Material Risk Identification, Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), and the Risk Appetite Program. The role will report into the Head of ERM and will be responsible for designing and driving enhancements to strengthen the approach to deliver a clearly articulated risk appetite connected to firm-wide processes, supported by limits and thresholds, and used as an input into the Material Risk Identification program. The position constitutes a key component within a team of skilled, engaged and customer focused colleagues covering a broad span of responsibilities. The role must be actively engaged with stakeholders, provide relevant advice, and credible challenge to ensure the ERMGF is effectively implemented.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Support the Risk Appetite program, including the annual review and refresh of the Risk Appetite Statement (RAS) and supporting KRIs and thresholds in alignment with the company’s strategic objectives.

  • Lead working sessions, in partnership with Independent Risk Management and First Line Risk to assess strategy, objectives and key risks to develop and challenge the RAS and supporting metrics.

  • Assist in the ongoing enhancement of the Risk Appetite Framework, including policy standards, procedures, and training to support the program.

  • Enforce program governance requirements by actively engaging Risk Appetite and KRI owners to ensure timely and accurate reporting of monthly metrics and ensure limit breaches are documented along with appropriate risk mitigation actions.

  • Monitor RAS level metrics as well as select management-level KRIs to identify changes in risk profile.

  • Aggregate, analyze, and draw conclusions from themes and trends to maintain a comprehensive Material Risk Identification (MRID) risk inventory inclusive of effective review and challenge, and documentation of a changing risk profile.

  • Assist Independent Risk Management in identifying, documenting, and delivering effective challenge of the risk inventory, including quantitative and qualitative impacts, and materiality assessments.

  • Engage key stakeholders as needed to enable the MRID lifecycle and strengthen the output through knowledge-sharing with key stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with Independent Risk Management and business lines to assess new and emerging risks.

  • Aggregate, report and communicate risk results to inform stakeholders of the existing risk environment and escalate material concerns to Risk leadership.

  • Ensure ERM programs integrate with other governance programs and adhere to industry best practices and regulatory expectations.

  • Develop relationships and remain active to stay on top of current and emerging issues.

  • Assist in the preparation of Regulatory and Internal Audit closure materials including collection and assessment of artifacts.

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience in the financial services industry, preferably with risk management experience in governance, controls, risk appetite, limit and/or escalation frameworks.

  • Experience in driving strategic, firmwide initiatives, including building stakeholder relationships and influencing to achieve outcomes.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to deliver credible challenge.

  • Understanding of regulatory expectations and industry practices in limit management, escalation and/or related areas.

  • Disciplined approach to execution, focusing on decision making to propel a project forward and avoid negative surprises.

  • Ability to synthesize complex concepts and effectively persuade senior audiences, orally and in writing.

  • Ability to operate with a limited level of direct supervision and exercise independence of judgement and autonomy.

  • Collaborative work style, effectively interacting with partners across organizational hierarchies.

  • Apply analytics to gain additional insights from key risk indicators for data trends and benchmarking.

  • Prior experience in supporting regulatory and internal audit exams a plus.

  • Take a proactive approach to advance teamwork, transparency, and accountability.

  • Maintain strong relationships with the first and second lines of defense, Internal Audit and the Regulators.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics or a related field is required

  • MBA/Advanced degree preferred.

Hours & Work Schedule: Hybrid - 3 days in-office / 2 remote
