BeiGene Senior Director, Applied Innovation Technology in Boston, Massachusetts

General Description:

The Senior Director, Applied Innovation Technology will report directly to the VP, Applied Innovation and is a member of the Applied Innovation function, a highly innovative and entrepreneurial team driving solutions to clinical trial inefficiencies, rising costs of drug development, lack of technological advances in healthcare/pharma tech, and fragmented data silos. The incumbent will lead multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary collaborations to develop innovative technologies and data platforms to advance novel therapeutic development and healthcare delivery. Through a robust informatic approach that is coupled with expert understanding of existing and emerging technological advancements in healthcare and drug development, the incumbent will pioneer and develop innovative solutions and data-driven approaches to drive impactful changes with the rapidly evolving global pharmaceutical and healthcare landscapes.

Essential Functions of the job:

Data Integration

  • Advise VP, Applied Innovation on strategic direction for data integration.

  • Design and develop an integrated Data-as-a-Service platform providing cloud-native (AWS, Azure) support for enterprise data integration, customizable Extract, Transform, Load processes with strong Change Data Capture, and an extensible REST API standard allowing centralized and streamlined data access for visualization, analysis, and reporting tools and workflows.

  • Develop innovative data structures and ontology to harmonize data gathered from preclinical sources.

  • Work with existing internal data stakeholders to assess data capture and analysis requirements.

  • Align with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with internal data policies regarding governance, access, and provenance.

  • Maintain awareness of external data pipelines, and work with internal data stakeholders to manage subscriptions to key pipelines.

Technology Development

  • Advise VP, Applied Innovation on strategic direction for technology development.

  • Initiate, develop, and implement acceleration and incubation programs for novel technologies to address inefficiencies or unmet needs in drug development (e.g. data capture of preclinical information and integration with clinical data).

  • Supervise technical staff in the creation of supporting services, APIs, and data governance tools.

  • Develop expert knowledge of emerging technologies in the medtech space.

  • Attend health technology conferences (such as AACR, SXSW, E#) and develop plans to incorporate emerging technologies in the overall strategic framework of Applied Innovation.

Education Required:

8 to 10+ years of direct experience in software development, information technology, or related field

  • Expert knowledge of database architecture, maintenance, security, and access

  • Familiarity with regulatory information databases: drugs@fda, dailymed, FAERS

  • Familiarity with electronic health records, real world evidence, clinical trial data formats, CSISC standards

  • Strong track record of analysis and fact-based decision-making

  • Strong scientific acumen and complex problem-solving skills

Travel: Minimal travel, 1-2 times per year
