WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

You’ll join the Product, Practice and Knowledge (PPK) group that supports our Strategy Practice.

Over the past two decades, we have formalized our industry and capability areas, internally known as “Practices”, integral to how we win and deliver results to our clients. PPK is a business unit of Bain and the team’s primary role is to drive growth in a particular industry or capability and boost our expertise and commercial excellence.

WHERE YOU’LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM

The Strategy Practice is one of the largest practices at Bain (25% of revenues), and at the heart of many of our biggest client success stories. We are constantly pushing the boundaries of innovation, with new hooks, points of view, products and tools that bring together the best thinking from our most successful client heads and senior strategists, and stretch our client’s definition of full potential. The Strategy Practice team works very closely with partners, managers and teams to bring Bain’s best experience and expertise across sectors and offices. They are integral in helping Bain win new strategy cases and advising our case teams on difficult strategy questions.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • You’ll be responsible for setting the strategic direction and continuous improvement in core Knowledge Management activities for the global Strategy Practice. You’ll be responsible for overseeing the knowledge management function globally, including ongoing management and professional development for the global Senior Knowledge Specialist (SKS) team, and guiding individual SKSs that are managing Knowledge Associates (KAs).

  • Develop deep understanding of the Strategy products and toolkit in order to provide exceptional service to practice leaders and case teams and serve as a thought leader within practice management.

  • You’ll set the strategic direction for Knowledge Management in the Strategy Practice to ensure each activity is prioritized appropriately, content gaps are identified and filled, and most critical intellectual property is captured and commercialized. Work closely with the Strategy product and solution managers to determine Knowledge Capture (KC) priorities, develop playbooks for supporting products at different lifecycle stages (mature vs new), and drive the ongoing evolution and improvement of global Knowledge Capture & Sharing activities and knowledge team operating model to ensure seamless workings.

  • Manage Global KM team resources (approx. 10 individuals). This includes management of day-to-day work, oversight for professional development, training, coaching, consensus reviewer responsibility, and long-term resource planning & recruitment. You’ll be a direct supervisor for more senior team members (SKSs and Knowledge Leads (KL).

  • Actively contribute to the practice and broader PPK team through leading practice-wide initiatives (team communications, events, feedback) and ensuring the Strategy Practice is engaged in and contributing to PPK and firm-wide initiatives.

ABOUT YOU

Note: We are open to hiring at the Manager and Senior Manager level. Your title will be determined based on tenure.

  • BA or equivalent undergraduate degree

  • MBA or master’s degree preferred, but not required

  • Experience in a professional services firm environment with exposure to knowledge management or research including experience managing a team of employees

  • Proven track record of coaching and developing junior team members and other internal stakeholders

  • Excellent communication skills, can drive senior level discussions succinctly to favorable outcomes

  • Interest in gaining deep experience within Strategy

  • Consistent track record of delivering strong results, including demonstrated ability to execute multiple projects at once and strong workplanning skills

  • A strong team player and demonstrated ability to motivate team members

  • Maturity to lead by example and manage highly confidential information

  • Willingness to get into detail as required while also balancing delegation effectively

  • Ability to positively influence culture

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
