VMware Senior Product Manager - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Boston, Massachusetts

Our Modern Application Platform Business Unit (MAPBU) at VMware is seeking a highly talented and motivated Product Manager to help define product strategy and advance our mission to deliver cutting-edge products & services that enable our customers to build modern applications with velocity, run open-source Kubernetes with consistency, and manage their entire application footprint with confidence across any cloud. You will play a pivotal role defining compelling and competitively differentiated capabilities, communicating our roadmap to internal and external stakeholders, understanding our customers deeply, and collaborating with marketing and sales to bring Tanzu to market. The team is a fast-paced, startup-like environment where you will have the opportunity to participate in building a business from the ground up while developing skills in cutting-edge technologies. In the process you'll fundamentally change how companies look at the applications they build and deploy.

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

There are multiple positions open based on your background and skill set. What they all have in common is a focus on understanding the customer’s needs, the market opportunities and how to deliver game changing software solutions.

  • In the first 3 months you will focus on working closely with engineering, design and field teams to understand the customer workflow and existing technology in a specific area of application development or operation. As well as partnering with other product managers to understand how your area of responsibility connects to and relates to other technologies used by your customers.

  • Within 6 months we will expect you to be working closely with customers to create new features and solutions and improve existing ones to better address their needs. You will also be expected to actively engage with open-source software communities, build trust and influence, as you align commercial and community outcomes.

  • Within 12 months you will be expected to be an expert in your area of responsibility and have built up a network of contacts across VMWare and the industry to continue to expand your knowledge and educate others as you advance your product

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

Depending on the day you may be:

  • Learning and using existing or emerging technology used in your area of responsibility

  • Do research by working with field teams, customers, industry and internal experts

  • Collaborate with field teams to engage with customers and glean information about their workflows, needs and pain points.

  • Collaborate with PM, Dev and Design across the business unit to deliver a cohesive solution to the market

  • Work closely with Dev and Design to deliver specific features and solutions

  • Present to customers, partners and internal stakeholders

  • Developing and updating a product roadmap that supports the broader business unit product strategy

  • Write proposals for new areas to focus on, help marketing develop blog posts, presentations and other forms of communication.

Where is this role located?

Remote: this role is fully remote and can be done anywhere in North America. Depending on the team that you will be working with you may be required to keep work hours of a specific US time zone – usually EST/PST/CST
