Wayfair Senior Software Engineering Manager, Finance Technology in Boston, Massachusetts

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">We are hiring a </span><strong>Senior Engineering Manager</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;"> - an organizational leader - in Wayfair’s Finance Technology department. In this role, you will be one of our team’s most senior technical visionaries, developing our future technical roadmap, and ensuring that our engineering and data science teams are building a world-class finance and accounting platform.&nbsp;</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This new platform is a key pillar supporting the continued growth of Wayfair by enabling new and existing business lines to generate increased sales, collect revenue, and gain valuable financial performance insights with a minimal amount of initial or ongoing engineering effort.</span></p>

<p>The Finance Technology teams are building a re-imagined enterprise scale platform that will be key for the continued growth of Wayfair’s multi-billion dollar business. Our platforms support the Wayfair B2C/B2B website, our global logistics and warehouse network, and a multitude of new and exciting streams of revenue. Wayfair’s business lines generate a phenomenal amount of financial transactions and data points from our vast customer base. Every transaction and every dollar must pass through our team’s platform to be validated, analyzed, and reported. Our goal is to provide our external customers and internal team members with the best, and fastest, financial services possible through: 1) visibility into accurate financial information; 2) standardization of financial processes throughout Wayfair; 3) technological process improvements; and 4) holistic decision making, grounded in mutually beneficial revenue generating and cost saving opportunities. Our platform is a key piece in the continued growth of Wayfair by ensuring new business lines can seamlessly generate and collect revenue with no additional onboarding or engineering cost to support those streams.</p>

<h3><strong>What You'll Do:</strong></h3>

<ul>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lead multiple software development teams - architecting solutions at scale to empower the business, and owning all aspects of the SDLC: design, build, deliver, and maintain</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Directly and indirectly manage 15+ software engineers and managers by providing coaching, guidance, and mentorship to grow the team as well as individuals</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Work with a variety of technologies, including PHP, Python, Java, SQL, React, Kafka, GraphQL, Docker, Kubernetes, and GCP</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Play a key role in developing and driving a multi-year technology strategy in the finance domain</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Develop and empower your peers by building an environment that promotes the growth, confidence, and productivity of the team outside of those you directly manage</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Seek out, define, and evolve best practices within teams’ area of focus as well as initiatives that raise the standards across the organization</span></li>

<h3><strong>What you’ll need:&nbsp;</strong></h3>

<ul>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Masters in computer science/related field or equivalent work experience</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">10+ years of experience in engineering, with preference for candidates with a mix of start-up and large-company experience</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">4+ years leading multiple managers with an organizational remit of 20 or more</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Experience making architectural and design-related decisions for large scale platforms, understanding the tradeoffs between time-to-market vs. flexibility</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hands-on experience driving software transformations within high-growth environments</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Experience hiring and mentoring engineers across all levels</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Experience initiating and driving complex projects to completion with minimal guidance</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Experience building a variety of applications ranging from low latency APIs to large scale batch systems</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders alike</span></li>
