This role can be done from home

Building the world’s leading sound experience starts with the experience we provide for our people. That’s why we’ve been distributed from the start: initially between offices in Boston & Santa Barbara, and now with additional offices in Seattle, San Francisco & Paris. This role can be done from anywhere in the United States- any of our offices, or remotely from home. It’s about impact, not location.

The Role

The User Research team at Sonos is part of our Product Management and Customer Experience group. We inspire and inform the design of Sonos products with a rich understanding of user behaviors and needs.

Our User Research team is looking for a highly talented senior researcher who is passionate about answering challenging design questions and loves thinking creatively about how to conduct and deliver insights. You will closely partner with other qualitative researchers and the product development team to bring the needs of our customers to life and help colleagues empathize with and act on those needs.

What You’ll Do

  • Gather, clarify and prioritize key questions from the product team to help define, plan, and execute research from concept testing through launch. This includes iterative testing in a fast-paced environment and usability testing.

  • Deliver high quality research insights, conveyed in clear and concise presentations/reports.

  • Present your insights to the product development team, including Product Managers and Designers, while finding other creative ways to share your insights.

  • Partner with Product Managers, User Experience Designers, Industrial Designers, Data Analysts, Go-to-Market, and the Beta team to plan research and ensure your work is impacting product decisions.

  • Based on your research insights, build and document foundational knowledge and learnings to be leveraged for future product designs.

  • Be an advocate for the Sonos customer and product research.

What You’ll Need

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience conducting, presenting and leading user research projects for a consumer technology company.

  • A general understanding of the hardware development process.

  • Experience conducting consumer hardware research.

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in multiple research methods applied to varying goals and outcomes.

  • An understanding of how design research fits into a fast-paced product development framework.

  • Travel will be required up to 40%. This role will involve conducting studies both remotely and in person in our Sonos research lab in Boston, and occasionally in Santa Barbara and Seattle.

  • Team player who thrives on collaboration, inspiring others and bringing out the best in the broader team.

  • Degree in Psychology, Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Experimental Psychology, Anthropology, Information Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

    We consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, which may cause compensation to vary depending on your skills, experience and qualifications. This job is also eligible for discretionary bonuses as well as an opportunity to become a Sonos shareholder because all full time employees are eligible for stock grants. The minimum base pay may be modified in the future based on changing market conditions. The starting minimum base pay for this role is:

$130,000
