Amazon Software Dev. Manager III, PXT Employee Onboarding and Administration (EOA), Joining Amazon (Personal Information Domain) in Boston, Massachusetts

The Personal Information Domain team is seeking a SDM III with a passion for managing engineering teams and delivering full-stack enterprise solutions using cloud technologies. The team owns both front-end customer experiences and back-end services that enable Personal Information management, new hire pre-boarding, identity and access, and HR service delivery across Amazon globally. We strive to simplify and accelerate the Joining Amazon process through intuitive and inventive solutions, empowering Amazonians through self-service products. From the day they join to becoming an alumni, all Amazonians are our customers, and through our back-end services we enable critical HR service delivery to all Amazonians.

Key job responsibilities

In this role, you will partner with other leaders, Product Managers, SDMs, TPMs and engineering teams across the organization to build software products that enable HR service delivery to our customers, and are critical to driving process efficiency and simplification. You will manage a team of highly capable engineers, providing structure and organization that enables the team to deliver results, focusing on clearly defined roadmaps, relentlessly prioritizing against multiple demands, using strong judgement and negotiating skills, and driving the development and growth of your team. You will drive your team to continuously improve and achieve high standards in engineering and operational excellence. You will partner with Product Managers to accurately measure and demonstrate the effectiveness of your solutions, and be able to report the business value and impact delivered by your team with thoughtfully defined business and technical metrics.

About the team

On a daily basis, we are designing and implementing new features, enhancements, and problem solving complex issues that often require cross-team collaboration and a holistic business process understanding.

We are the customer too! Our team is building products that impact HR service delivery across the entire Amazon global workforce. In daily conversations with Product Managers, we advocate for, and invent solutions to improve the customer experience. What we do affects everyone at Amazon.

We move fast! Our team focuses on prioritization and fast decision making to deliver for the customer without sacrificing good engineering practices.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of engineering team management experience

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

  • Experience delivering products against plan in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined, distributed-responsibility and often ambiguous environment

  • 5+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience in many disparate technologies, typically ranging from front-end user interfaces through to back-end systems and all points in between

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

  • 3+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
