VMware Sr. Engineering Manager - Tanzu Kubernetes Grid - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Boston, Massachusetts

TKG builds on trusted open source and community projects and delivers an engineered and supported Kubernetes platform for end users and partners.

What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?

You will lead a globally distributed team of Kubernetes contributors, with a focus on ensuring growth of contributors and successful contributions to Kubernetes and its sub-projects to support organizational strategy.

Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months, you will work toward completing?

You will be expected to:

  • Translate organizational strategy into strategic work plans, set operational objectives, and delegate assignments

  • Connect members and objectives of team to short-term and long-term business goals

  • Report and be accountable for success of innovating with a globally diverse community towards team milestones and established themes

  • Establish team members’ career growth plans, mentorships, and individual goals

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments or requirements will you be performing on a regular basis?

On a regular basis, you will

  • Join Kubernetes special interest groups (SIGs) alongside team members

  • Delegate to and support technical leadership to work with team members to align to strategy, create plans, and complete work

  • Facilitate, coach, and mentor your team of Staff and Member of Technical Staff engineers to ensure each member is able to achieve career goals and be their best

  • Review and optimize operations and organizational structure to ensure influence and coordination to support Tanzu and business-aligned open source strategy

  • Lead through internal organizational changes and complexities of innovating with global open source communities

What is leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

The hiring manager for this role is Clint Kitson, R&D Director. Clint has been in the cloud native ecosystem for 5+ years and helped build, coordinate, and grow VMware’s Kubernetes contributor and product teams. Clint’s team is responsible for delivering TKG and building teams that innovate with global communities to further the customer readiness of Kubernetes.
