State of Massachusetts System Administrator in Boston, Massachusetts

EOHED’s mission is to strengthen cities, towns, and neighborhoods to enhance the quality of life of Massachusetts residents by providing leadership, professional assistance, and financial resources to promote safe, decent affordable housing opportunities, economic vitality of communities and sound municipal management. The Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development (EOHED) is seeking to hire aSystem Administratorto join the HED Technical Services Group. The Systems Administrator will be primarily responsible for participating in projects and administration activities required for the daily operation, maintenance, and support of EOHED agencies advanced systems which includes virtual environment, server builds, server maintenance, wireless services, mobile devices, remote support, and special project for SCIO. Under the direct supervision of the EOHED Technical Lead, the systems administrator will build, install, configure, analyze, tune, and troubleshoot Windows operating systems both on-premises and in cloud IaaS providers. The system administrator will support on-premises and cloud servers, including security configurations, patching, and troubleshooting. The system administrator will also administer EOHED Active Directory new administration of Active Directory objects and GPOs for all EOHED agencies. The primary work location for this role will be at 100 Cambridge Street, Boston, Massachusetts 02114. The work schedule for this position isMonday thru Friday, 9:00AM to 5:00PM.This role is expected to perform after hours support as authorized and required. *This position will require travel (25 to 30%)to various sites in Massachusetts. Travel requirements will normally be due to a project that is planned with advanced notice and emergencies. This position would be expected to follow a hybrid model of reporting to work that combines in-office workdays and work from home days as needed. *Responsibilities: * Compare, evaluate, and implement new technologies, and integrate systems into the computing environment. * Administer EOHED Active Directory new administration of Active Directory objects and GPOs for all EOHED agencies. * Participate in and manage assigned infrastructure projects, including coordination of vendor work, coordinate with application vendors for new deployment or upgrades and other related infrastructure support. * Research, recommend, request quotes and order hardware, software, and peripherals as requested. * Manage Asset Management application system and provide guidance to EOHED IT and agencies. * Continuously monitor EOHED network/system monitoring tools for outage, alerts & security threats. * Assist in the development and enforcement of EOHED IT policies, procedures, and technical documentation. * Train and mentor EOHED Service Desk staff when appropriate or directed by management. * Tier 2 escalation point for service desk staff after initial contact with service desk requestor. * Perform routine/scheduled audits of the systems, including all backup. * Responsible for making operational decisions within a VMware Suites (VMWare, vSphere, and view) associated with system/application activity and performance to ensure stability of the environment. * Take ownership, work towards the resolution of HED's UP or EOTSS service request within acceptable limits. * Participate in the daily activities required to assist end users in their various IT related needs including applications, networking, wireless and mobile devices/users, email, peripherals, printing/scanning, desktop/laptop support, etc. * Attend seminars, training, and professional meetings to keep up to date with developments in information technology. Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: * 5-7 years of system administration related experience supporting a large environment with over 1,000 users. * Extensive working knowledge and hands- on experience with the following technical tools: Active Directory, Exchange, Office 365, Azure, AWS, MFA, and other Windows-based technologies. * Experience with networking technologies and protocols including DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP. * Advanced knowledge of Windows management technologies Intune & SCCM. * Knowledge of common coding languages for scripting and automation (PowerShell, C#, Python preferred). * Experience with cybersecurity tools including Windows Defender, Windows Defender ATP & SEIM tools. * Experience in designing and supporting VMware environments to scale to customer demands. * Working knowledge of the principles and practices of public and business administration, and the rules, policies and regulations governing the operation of the Secretariat. * Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, ability to write concisely to express thought clearly and develop ideas in logical sequence. * Working knowledge of types, concepts, techniques, and applications of Information Technology. * Working knowledge of capabilities and limitations of computer hardware and software. * Ability to work independently and in a team setting. * Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of Information Technology to draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations. * Ability to adjust to changing environment to meet emergency or changing program or production requirements. * Working knowledge of various Microsoft Operating Systems, Office Suites, and other enterprise products. * Ability to anticipate and analyze difficult situations and take corrective action to prevent problems from reoccurring. Education and Certifications: * Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, Information Systems, Business Administration or other related field, or equivalent work experience. Job Requirements: * Must be able to lift items weighing more than 50 lbs. * Required to travel to various locations on foot, public transportation, or personal vehicle. * Possession of a valid driver's license is necessary for travel to remote sites First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days. Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in Information Systems, of which (B) at least one year must have been in work in which the major duties included computer systems analysis, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. SUBSTITUTIONS: A. An Associate's dregree with a major in the field of data processing or computer programming may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.* B. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in the field of data processing or computer and/or information science may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required (A) experience.* C. A diploma for completion of two year full-time, equivalent part-time, program in recognized non-degree granting business or vocational/technical school above the high school level with a major in the field of computer programming may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.* D. An official transcript from a recognized business or vocational/technical school as evidence of completion of a program consisting of at least 650 hours of instruction in the field of computer programming may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience. E. Graduation from data processing course of a recognized vocational/technical high school may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience. Education toward such a degree or diploma will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
