SemanticBits UX/UI Designer in Boston, Massachusetts

SemanticBits is seeking a talented UX/UI Design contractor with a least four (2) years of experience in developing highly usable, interactive and modern-looking web applications and websites. The chosen candidate must be able to relocate off-site for an initial 2-8 months (relocation costs fully covered by SemanticBits).


  • Performing a user-centered approach in designing web-based applications

  • Advising product decisions through user research/analysis and iterative feedback loops

  • Implementing Lean UX principles in defining minimum viable products (MVP) for prototyping and testing

  • Designing visually elegant websites and web-based applications that adhere to usability best practice

  • Leading user/design specification meetings and devising UI mockups/wireframes for review with team members and customers

  • Collaborating with technical teams to ensure that web designs and applications meet both business and end-user needs

  • Developing fully documented designs of interactive web-based applications that can be easily interpreted and implemented by experienced software developers

  • Adhering to current design standards, including Section 508


Minimum Requirements

  • Active Secret clearance preferred but not strictly required

  • 2 years of relevant work experience in UX, product design and/or enterprise application fields or relevant customer-facing job role

  • Experience creating flow diagrams, wireframes, prototypes, and visual comps, with a strong portfolio that demonstrates this

  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, InVision and other design tools

  • A solid understanding of the design and product development processes

  • Experience with early-stage design, ideation techniques, and research methods

  • Experience collaborating with a team of programmers with varying skill sets

  • Experience with agile and lean philosophies

Preferred RequirementsThe ideal candidate would have the majority of the following skills:

  • In addition to Secret cleared UX designers, we are also seeking a lead designer with Active Top Secret (TS) Secret Compartmentalized Information (SCI) clearance

  • BA/BS or higher, in experience design, industrial design, HCI, or related field or equivalent experience or 3 years of relevant work experience in UX, product design, and/or enterprise application fields or relevant customer-facing job role

  • Familiar with CSS, HTML, JavaScript, BootstrapExperience in conducting task analysis, user analysis and usability testing

  • Expertise in Section 508 compliance
