Senior Hardware Design Engineer

Department Description

The Oracle hardware development team is responsible for the architecture, analysis, detailed design, development, integration, test, and delivery of Oracle servers based on the latest high-end server-grade silicon to deliver products used in Oracle’s Public Cloud and Oracle’s Engineered Systems products.

Job Responsibilities

As a senior member of the board design hardware team you will have responsibility for design of new products and making improvements to existing products. This position focuses on in-house design with very moderate domestic and international travel for design power-on and test. In this position, you will be involved in all phases of the hardware development life-cycle, including evaluating initial concepts and architectures, delivering functional specifications and board level schematics, working with PCB layout design resources, engaging with suppliers and external manufacturers, leading prototype bring-up and debug, and troubleshooting and determining corrective actions for board and system level issues. You will be exposed to all aspects of server system design, working closely with mechanical, power, signal integrity, validation, and firmware engineers. In this role, you will work in a fast paced environment with a team of highly skilled engineers. Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Computer or equivalent Engineering degree required

  • Prior experience in the design, debug, and qualification of board level hardware

  • Experience with industry standard EDA tools for developing PCB designs, e.g. Cadence Allegro Design Entry HDL and Cadence Allegro PCB Designer

  • Experience with design and troubleshooting data buses used in servers such as PCIe, SAS, SATA, I2C, DDR

  • Experience working with mechanical, power, signal integrity, validation, firmware and software teams during product development

  • Experience publishing bill of materials

  • Strong fundamentals in electrical engineering

  • Strong analytical, diagnostic and problem solving skills

  • Knowledge of CPU/chipset architectures

  • Excellent communication and technical skills

  • Strong sense of urgency and teamwork

  • Ability to handle varied and complex duties and tasks needing exercise of independent judgment

  • Able to travel, occasionally, both domestic and international, to support prototype builds

Evaluates reliability of materials, properties and techniques used in production; plans, designs and develops electronic parts, components, integrated circuitry, mechanical systems, equipment and packaging, optical systems and/or DSP systems.

Responsible for designing, developing, modifying and evaluating electronic, electro-mechanical or mechanical components, assemblies or integrated circuitry for hardware systems for the external market. Includes new design, as well as modification activities that results in significant product enhancement. Activities encompass design, analysis, testing and process development using engineering principles and methods. Technical disciplines may include electrical and logical design of printed circuit boards or integrated circuits; mechanical design of electronics enclosures or integrated circuit packaging; and embedded software/firmware design.

Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of engineering or related experience.
