This role focusses on leveraging best-in-breed technologies and processes to make delivery of the platform and services built on the platform frictionless, agile, secure by design, and robust. This includes process and tooling from source code repositories and testing capabilities, delivery mechanisms including containerization, to deployment strategies such as blue-green and canary deployments, all with the goal that developers can deliver their code to production quickly and with confidence. The platform will host individual health and wellness workloads which are PHI and governed by HIPAA, so these DevOps capabilities must be built with the highest levels of security and confidentiality in mind.

Looking for a Senior DevOps Architect who will help lead the design of the DevOps processes and tooling for our health and wellness digital platform. In this role you will interface with engineering teams, product management, and business units to define and deliver robust, scalable and agile architectures in support of the rapidly growing portfolio of digital wellness capabilities. This platform will include massive big data capabilities and analytics, machine learning, and sophisticated decision logic that will power Aetnas next generation digital health and wellness offerings.

This role requires strategic thinking and vision, excellent coalition building skills, solid technical knowledge of end-to-end DevOps processes and tooling, and outstanding communication skills.

In this role you will:

Serve as technical architecture lead across delivery and DevOps teams building out continuous platform delivery capabilities, providing mentorship and at times hands-on participation in team delivery;

Serve as guild owner for DevOps across Aetna Digital, and build a community of shared values and goals for improving DevOps capabilities;

Work with Aetna Health teams to identify a roadmap for release tooling onto a shared platform, and ensure that there is a smooth, intentional transition from old to new approaches;

Provide in-depth technical insight and guidance into proper design patterns and practices on key technologies;

Identify and provide guidance to drive down technical debt and enable end-to-end self-service delivery capabilities for feature teams;

Drive the creation of process definitions and non-functional requirements, and work with DevOps and release engineers to ensure that they are met by deliverables, and that they evolve gracefully as business needs change;

Work with product owners and scrum masters to ensure the implementation approaches for user stories are in alignment with architectural principles and practices, and optimized for delivery of end-to-end value across user stories;

Deliver proof-of-concept investigations into technical approaches and technologies, either in advance of engineering teams or by driving the team through a POC process;

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE desired:

Ensure governance through code by delivering code samples, exemplars and templates which drive best practices and standards; Drive vendor assessment and selection, and build versus buy decisions; Drive the creation of architectural principles and best practices for DevOps processes and tooling, and contribute to the development of over-arching standards with other architects and engineers; Identify and promote appropriate and emerging design patterns relevant to developer productivity and delivery; Eloquently and convincingly persuade decision makers about technical and architectural designs and roadmaps, and effectively defend those plans with facts and data; Facilitate technical training and learning opportunities in DevOps for technical staff.

Looking for:

5+ years of recent and related experience designing and delivering DevOps solutions and providing collaborative leadership for feature teams; Strong knowledge of a wide breadth of infrastructure and release services and capabilities on at least one major cloud platform (preferably AWS); Significant experience doing end-to-end delivery of services and features to an application or platform hosted in the cloud; Experience delivering infrastructure solutions that meet HIPAA or similar compliance requirements; Knowledge and experience with containers, microservices and microservice patterns, API gateways, and modern secrets management; Extensive knowledge with source management, CI/CD tooling, code analysis and scanning, and artifact/image repositories; Strong understanding of approaches and processes for continuous release and delivery, and the strategies needed to ensure that successful deployments can be enabled seamlessly with no impact to the customer, and failed deployments rolled back gracefully and quickly; Understanding of security in depth, and the standard patterns, architectures and technologies needed to ensure security at all levels, and in particular for securing delivery pipelines against malicious code injection; Vendor assessment and choice; Agile methods and practices, including scaled agile frameworks; A proven track record of driving effective DevOps pipelines and tools into production through leadership and collaboration.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
