Senior Manager – HF Software Cloud Development – Burlington, MA or St Paul, MN

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As Senior Manager-HF Software Cloud Development , you will join high growth business division working on Mechanical Circulatory and Pressure Measurement Systems . You will provide technical leadership to software engineering team and provide guidance for the design and development of company products for this high growth, high visibility team. In this role, you will work closely with software team, senior management and cross-functional managers to manage software development efforts for Abbott’s heart failure business. This position reports to the Director of Software Development within R&D.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical leadership to the Cloud Software development team in implementing multiple cloud projects.

  • Work with Senior Management to provides design/development teams with appropriate resources to perform assigned tasks.

  • Keeps senior management team informed of design/development progress and issues.

  • Establishes Software Development plans and schedules. Works with cross-functional team and management to establish and execute on product development objectives on all major product development initiatives which involve software.

  • Works with cross-functional to define and Implement Cloud Strategy for Heart Failure Division.

  • Represents Software Cloud Development team in cross-functional meetings. Presents status of software development activities, challenges and cross-functional dependencies.

  • Hires and retains a diverse, highly qualified staff and provides ongoing performance feedback. Sets goals which align to department plans and manages the execution of goals through coaching and mentoring. Maintains a safe and professional work environment.

  • Provides mentorship and career development oversight for direct report employees.

  • Interfaces with appropriate internal and external resources (regulatory, customers, etc.) to ensure development programs meet regulatory and customer requirements.

  • Guides development, training and implementation of software standard operating procedures and work instructions.

  • Reviews and provides functional approval for project and quality system documentation.

  • Interfaces with appropriate internal and external resources to ensure intellectual property is appropriately protected.

  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

REQUIRED

  • B.Sc. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or Engineering Management. (Master’s in Computer Science or related field preferred – see below)

  • 10+ years of software development experience

  • 7+ years’ experience in Cloud Software Development.

  • Hands-on Experience with Azure.

  • Experience with Micro Services Architecture and Concepts.

  • Strong skills in at least one of the following programming/Scripting languages: Java, C# or Angular JS.

  • Experience in Designing and Implementing Cloud solutions.

  • 3+ years of experience managing people.

  • Ability to travel up to 20%, including internationally, when COVID19 restrictions are lifted

PREFERRED

  • Advanced level degree(s) in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or a related discipline

  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross division business unit model preferred.

  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.

  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set goals and provide positive and constructive feedback respectfully to build positive relationships and improve business results.

  • Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced changing environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.

  • Multi-tasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.

  • Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills and ability to hold others accountable.

  • Management experience in Software, Engineering, R&D, and/or Quality within a medical device/biomedical, high technology, and/or any other regulated industry
