ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR PROGRAMS, Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE)-Center for Quantum Engineering (CQE)/Quantum Science and Engineering Center Consortium (QSEC), to lead--in collaboration with the faculty director--all efforts to conceptualize, strategically develop, and implement programs/initiatives that advance CQE directives. Will manage operations and administration for all programs associated with approximately 40-50 QSEC members and several U.S. government partners in support of CQE’s research and intellectual mission (anticipated annual expense volume, approximately $5M); and provide administrative leadership and broad operational oversight for all QSEC member activities and associated member engagement, with the goal of building research collaborations that provide the CQE with unprecedented research collaboration opportunities. CQE and QSEC are a diverse team of physicists and engineers working to understand, design, manufacture, and control coherent quantum systems comprising superconducting artificial atoms (qubits) for quantum information science and technology applications. Efforts span fundamental research to applied physics and systems engineering.
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree (master’s/MBA/advanced degree preferred) in a related field; at least five years’ program management, administration, and business development experience in an evolving, complex, and rapidly growing scientific environment; ability to understand complex situations and operationally implement new ideas beyond functional expertise; experience with international programs and program development; expertise managing and facilitating large projects and conceiving of and executing plans to achieve specific long-and-short-term objectives; excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and oral communication skills; discretion with sensitive and confidential information; and ability to persuade, lead, and work both independently and with a wide range of people in a complex, start-up-like environment. Seek flexible, proactive individual who embraces developing plans for complex program elements and is able to manage their execution. Familiarity with MIT a plus. Job #18287-1011/22/19
