Position Description:

The Associate Director of Application Services for EH&S combines senior individual contributor responsibilities with some people management responsibilities and reports to the Sr Director of Campus Systems. This role is responsible for IT overall for Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), a business unit of Campus Services in Harvard’s Central Administration and interfaces with EHS management to harmonize business and technology needs.

The specific responsibilities for this role can be divided into the following key areas:

Account and Relationship Management

  • Responsible for establishing a trusted partner relationship with the EH&S leadership and the rest of the EH&S staff as necessary.

  • Accountable for the overall delivery of IT services to EH&S, and ensuring EH&S specific needs are understood by the broader HUIT.

  • Communicate effectively to all business partners and promote transparency on IT services delivered.

Strategy and Planning

  • Drives the evolution of the IT roadmap to support the business strategy laid out by EH&S leadership. This roadmap in turn is used to support the production of the yearly Multi-Year Technology Plan (MYTP) for EH&S.

  • Lead the yearly project line-up as part of the budget process, and informing the budget process to support these projects.

  • Runs regular (quarterly, twice yearly, etc.) reviews with the business unit(s) leadership to review the multi-year roadmap.

IT Project Delivery

  • Accountable for the delivery of non-ITCRB IT projects for EH&S, on time and on budget.

  • Ensures all aspects of IT projects are successfully addressed.

Leadership & Innovation

  • Provide thought leadership and vision on the technologies supporting the business unit(s).

  • Engage with groups across Harvard, peer institutions, and industry partners to represent Harvard and get insight into technology/industry trends.

  • Foster an environment that enables a culture of continuous innovation with a focus on solving business problems through IT solutions.

This position has been designated as a Partially on-site position (##-## days per WK/MNTH/QTR) While this position is partially on-site, additional travel to campus may be necessary based on business needs and the nature of work. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only).
