General Scope and Summary
SAGE Therapeutics is searching for a creative, resourceful, integrative thinker for an important role that is responsible for researching and monitoring competitor development and marketing activities using multiple internal and external data sources. This individual will be responsible for working with internal stakeholders and external vendors to collect, monitor, and present competitive intelligence information. This individual will also be responsible for working with the Research and Development and Commercial teams to classify and analyze their data.
Roles and Responsibilities
Gather, analyze, and interpret a wide range of market-related data, including industry, market, financial, scientific literature, patent publications, and competitive insights needed to develop strategic business objectives.
Develop innovative approaches and strategic ideas to deliver solutions to current business requirements.
Generate visualizations and dashboards using current business applications.
Partner with subject matter experts and key stakeholders to develop and deliver ongoing business requirements and ensure stakeholder alignment.
Track all intelligence data points, and provide real-time information with data integrity and data process optimization.
Work with stakeholders to effectively communicate program updates and project milestones.
Perform relevant scientific and information analysis, particularly in relation to searching competitor information, scientific literature and patent publications.
Collaborate with R&D project teams, Patent Department, Business Development team and other Scientific & Competitive Analysis key stakeholders to provide value-added information analyses in support of the drug development process.
Ensure Competitive Intelligence awareness in the areas of therapeutic and technological development by providing CI Alerts to senior management and specialized news as well quarterly reports to research teams.
Work with vendors to gather competitive intelligence, and deliver synthesized updates to leadership. Ensure regular communications highlight relevant insights / events / competitor activity focused on both current activities and future plans.
Survey relevant industry and professional conferences and keep leadership informed of latest developments. Work on relevant parts of the Strategic Plan and Investor Relations reports.
Design, oversee implementation, analyze and communicate results of specific strategic insights experiments.
Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders, good conflict management and negotiation skills, ability to analyze complex issues to develop relevant and realistic plans, programs and recommendations. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree required preferably in life sciences.
3-5 years of related work experience in research or equivalent. Prior experience in research and development is preferred.
Biotechnology/Pharma experience required
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
Ability to prepare and present complex scientific information in a comprehensive and concise manner.
Sound knowledge of primary and secondary research methodologies and of information resources pertinent to the drug development and technology industry.
Experience in gathering / reporting competitive intelligence, insights generation / market research.
Works well in cross-functional teams; able to present and communicate well
Ability to think differently / creatively and design experiments to ‘test and learn’ strategic initiatives.
Experience in managing vendors
Capable of synthesizing multiple sources of information into concise communication
Strategic thinker with analytic skills to include problem-solving and the confidence to draw conclusions / formulate effective, actionable recommendations
Experience working with all levels of management and consulting with key business stakeholders. An ability to influence for greater outcomes.
Strong team player that has a customer service approach and is solution oriented.
