The System and Trade Analysis group at Draper is seeking a Digital Engineering Solutions Architect to develop next generation Digital Engineering capabilities for domains such as: strategic deterrent systems, missile defense systems, hypersonic missiles, space systems, precision guided munitions, and autonomous air/sea vehicles. Our multi-disciplinary teams innovate and develop solutions for full system development lifecycle in areas of importance for national security.
Draper has adopted an integrated, model-driven digital mindset in solving Systems Engineering problems spanning the entire lifecycle. From early-lifecycle conceptual system design and architecture, detailed modeling, model-driven customer reviews, verification and validation, integration and testing, to deployment, surveillance and performance monitoring, Draper has a suite of Digital Engineering solution needs across our projects. For this role, we need candidates with broad interests in Model-based Engineering, and in the trinity of data architecture, advanced computing, and intelligent algorithms to develop digital capabilities such as Digital twin and digital thread for our projects. Our thinking spans the entire gamut, from “as-designed” to “as-deployed” lifecycle phases in supporting uncompromised delivery of solutions.
Specific responsibilities will include:
Work with senior leaders across Draper to gather inputs and support on Digital Engineering needs and initiatives. Drive strategic planning and activities for near and long term Digital Engineering needs for Draper programs, and how to monetize the capability for customers.
Maintain strong external presence in the Digital Engineering world as a thought leader and innovative thinker, understand external trends and map back to Draper needs and new business development.
Conceptualize and lead the development of the appropriate Digital solution for each project depending on the lifecycle needs, with a “Product Owner” hat.
Solid understanding of data-driven algorithmic disciplines such as Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Numerical optimization, Statistical and Probabilistic modeling etc. for systems with underlying physics and sparse multidimensional data. A passion to apply these approaches to capability needs in Digital Engineering.
Bridge the knowledge gaps and across Draper. Build and promote cross functional teams to meet customer and internal needs.
Adopt the use of modern MBSE and software development practices and drive the formal adoption of the trinity of data/compute/intelligence into Digital Engineering solutions
Execute complex assignments with minimal management direction. Mentor technical staff and development teams to successfully work to deadlines, often while successfully managing to multiple competing priorities
The required qualifications for this job include:
An M.S. degree or higher in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field
12+ years of relevant experience in enhancing National Security through the application of advanced technology to system level solutions
Interdisciplinary expertise in some or all of these topics is needed - Systems Engineering, Model based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Trade Space Exploration (TSE), Machine Learning, Data Science.
Demonstrated experience in cross-discipline and full-lifecycle integration for complex systems
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other leading national experts in science and technology from academia, national laboratories, and industry who may have ongoing competing priorities and viewpoints.
Ability to create and present senior level communications for internal and external customers.
Desired qualifications include:
Prior experience in technical leadership
Experience in leading or involvement in organizational transformations
Experience in data visualization and story boarding
Prior experience in architecture and development of Digital twin and thread
Understanding of the DOD or other Federal agency budgeting process, solicitations and acquisition processes
