ELECTRICAL ENGINEER, Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE)-T.J. Rodgers RLE Electronics Prototyping Laboratory, to lead the development and maintenance of the new Rogers Laboratory and related activities emphasizing electronics. Will support research operations throughout RLE; ensure the smooth operation of the Rodgers Laboratory in support of electronics prototyping for the research activities of RLE PIs; collaborate on oversight, maintenance, and administration of a comprehensive safety program to ensure the laboratory’s safe and reliable operation; and maintain, operate, and train on highly specialized laboratory equipment.
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in a technical area; five years’ invention and hands-on engineering experience; familiarity with analog, digital, and microprocessor circuit design fundamentals; broad electronics background; ability to train and mentor undergraduates on circuit design problems and train on the use of analog and digital oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, function generators, digital multimeters, etc.; ability to design, debug, and maintain printed circuit boards; expertise/familiarity with machine tools; familiarity with CAD software for operating CNC tools and creating printed circuit board layouts or willingness to learn and teach these skills; excellent analytical, interpersonal, collaboration, organizational, and communication skills; initiative; flexibility; and discretion with confidential information/issues. Must be able to collaborate on solving practical engineering design problems; explain technical matters clearly and concisely; develop plans for and manage the execution of complex program elements; and work with a diverse population of researchers in a complex, innovative research environment. PREFERRED: familiarity with power electronics; supervisory experience; experience working with engineering project teams; familiarity with Altium, ExpressPCB, Mastercam, SolidWorks, Eagle layout software, etc.; familiarity with electronics test equipment, including oscilloscopes; ability to lead and work independently in a complex, start-up-like environment; and familiarity with MIT.
