The Lead Windows Systems Engineer provides expert judgment and analysis for the design, development and implementation of the Windows Server, Active Directory, Certificate Authority and SQL database infrastructure and related systems and applications. Defines systems requirements based on business needs, cost and required integration with other systems or platforms. Ensures that all systems are working at optimal performance and reliability levels and offers support to Information Services department regarding new technologies and system requirements. Has thorough knowledge of server and virtualization technologies, databases, collaboration tools, web and software applications servers. Works with project managers, internal I&O and Information Security teams, application owners and/or engineering teams to develop implementation strategies and project execution planning. Provides consultation on complex projects and is considered to be the top level contributor/subject matter expert. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complex tasks and leads the work of other team members. The position requires an individual who has demonstrated technical leadership in a 1,000+ user environment and who can lead the implementation of multiple projects while working with other groups in IT and across the enterprise.
Architect, deploy and maintain enterprise-class Windows Servers, Active Directory, SQL databases and related infrastructure.
Lead more junior team members to troubleshoot and proactively resolve server outages, performance issues, anomalies and conduct root cause analysis.
Install and maintain Windows Server 2012/2016/2019, Active Directory infrastructure and all related services and processes including AD Federation Services/Single Sign-on, Certificate Authority and Multifactor Authentication
Design, install and maintain enterprise-class Windows servers, MS SQL Database Servers and all related processes including backup/restore, security policies and virus protection, tuning, capacity planning and monitoring of all resources to ensure high availability of all services provided.
Develop PowerShell, and other Windows scripts for automation and optimization of system tasks.
Maintain systems security and integrity concerning data and computing resources and take corrective actions as necessary, in compliance with company, and industry standards and best practices.
Develop and maintain compliance documentation and architectural diagrams for use in the installation, configuration, operation, maintenance, and support of the infrastructure.
Responsible for daily operational duties, design the growing infrastructure, provision servers, implement upgrades, work with hardware and software support vendors, etc.
Responsible for Windows server and SQL database capacity planning, disaster recovery and security, Windows infrastructure design, build-out, deployments, implementing server monitoring and performance tuning technologies, troubleshooting and problem resolution for complex server issues.
Analyze the risks, benefits and opportunities associated with a proposed design or solution.
Research new technologies to drive innovation and efficiency throughout the organization.
Participate in on-call rotation which may include nights, weekends and holidays.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent experience
8+ years of relevant Server Systems Engineering experience required.
Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and drive projects to completion.
Experience in developing leading-edge technical solutions in Microsoft platform based on industry standards including Windows Server OS and MS SQL Databases.
Extensive knowledge and experience with Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy and PowerShell scripting.
Proficiency with ADFS/SSO, IIS, DNS, SMTP, LDAP and network load balancers.
Experience with Certificate Authority systems and SSL certificates
Familiarity with Microsoft Identity Manager or other IDM user life-cycle management systems
In-depth understanding and experience with virtualization technologies like VMware ESX.
Excellent time management skills, and the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
Ability to work efficiently and independently with minimal supervision (i.e. self-motivated and willing to stretch to meet important deadlines).
Work with manager in server roadmap development and budget planning efforts.
Experience with DFARS and NIST compliance documentation and technical implementations is a plus.
Microsoft Professional Certifications highly recommended.
CompTIA Security+, Network+ or equivalent certification preferred
