CRISPR Therapeutics Manager, Computational Infrastructure in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Position Summary

We are seeking a talented Manager, Computational Infrastructure to join the Genomics and Computational Biology Team and tackle challenging bioinformatics and software engineering problems. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with research groups to lead the deployment of tools, algorithms, and pipelines required to support the development of new, transformative CRISPR/Cas9-based gene editing therapies.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain the underlying compute infrastructure for processing and analyzing large-scale genomic data

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of bioinformatics software and pipelines

  • Work with research scientists to convert research prototypes into robust scientific software optimized for performance, scalability, and best coding practices

  • Train and guide bioinformatics engineers in tools, database architecture, software architecture, analysis methods, and pipelines

  • Study pertinent literature to identify, evaluate, and incorporate new bioinformatics applications and computer algorithms to improve CRISPR Therapeutics bioinformatics pipelines

  • Ensure basic quality assurance of data and software generated by designing and implementing test methodologies

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Software Engineering, Computer Science or a relevant field with 6+ years of industry experience or B.S. with 8+ years of experience

  • Hands on experience with computational workflows and bioinformatic tools for next generation sequencing (e.g. bcl2fastq, BWA, samtools, GATK, IGV)

  • Proficiency developing software for Linux/Unix environments and shell scripting.

  • Technical familiarity with high performance computing or cloud computing environments (e.g. AWS, DNAnexus)

  • Proficiency with Python or R

  • Experience with web development frameworks (e.g. Django / Flask), front-ends (e.g. Angular.js / React) and relational databases (e.g. MySQL)

  • Familiarity with development and management of complex software infrastructure

  • Demonstrated adherence to best practices in software engineering particularly version control and testing

  • Experience collaborating with and communicating results to a diverse audience including scientists, engineers, IT, company leadership, and business development professionals

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively

  • Strong leadership and management skills; excellent verbal and written communication

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project management experience

  • Experience with agile and scrum methodologies, sprint planning, and leading daily stand-up

  • Familiarity with LIMS and other sample and data tracking systems

  • Experience with DevOps tools (e.g. Docker, Jenkins, Puppet)
