IBM Operations Manager in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Your Role and Responsibilities

As an Operations Manager in IBM Research, you will provide critical organizational and administrative support for the Business Innovation team, which serves to catalyze our scientific research for real-world impact. In a large organization with many people, many processes, many initiatives, and many internal systems, your role is to keep the trains running on time and make sure we are crossing our T's and dotting our I's so we can achieve our big vision goals. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented self-starter who is both willing to take direction and willing to take initiative based on proactive identification of problems and opportunities facing the organization. This person quickly becomes indispensable as someone the team, and especially leadership, has utmost trust in for execution of items small and large. Your colleagues will describe you as 'Someone who just gets things done.' You will need to demonstrate good judgement in analyzing multiple approaches to a given problem, identifying the best course of action, and ultimately executing it. You will need strategic thinking to continuously map the mission and vision of the organization to the day-to-day operations of the team.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Management of critical processes including but not limited to purchase orders, payments, contracts, and capital requests

  • Collaboration with the leadership and finance team in the management of multi-million dollar budgets

  • Management of key Airtable databases, which are central to our organizational processes and platforms

  • Organization of meetings and events with our teams and clients

  • Writing of internal communications and reports

  • Continuously identification of ways to improve our operations as a team

  • Management of new hire onboarding

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Strong skills and sensibilities in relational database management (Airtable)

  • Ability to manage many tasks and execute with reliability

  • Positive attitude and commitment to team success

  • 2-10 years of demonstrated experience and success in an operational role

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Experience working in large technology companies

  • Familiarity with AI, hybrid cloud, and quantum computing technologies
