Aurora Flight Sciences, A Boeing Company, is seeking talented engineers to lead cutting edge autonomous aircraft research and development programs. The Perception Research Engineer brings strong design ability with the sensors and algorithms that perceive the external environment (mapping and semantic labelling), internal state of a vehicle(s), and operator intent. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong background in modern machine learning perception algorithms and systems and the ability to deploy perception systems onto real-world applications. The position comes with ample leadership opportunities in customer/proposal development and engineering execution.

Description

Aurora Flight Sciences, A Boeing Company, is seeking talented engineers to lead cutting edge autonomous aircraft research and development programs. The Perception Research Engineer develops systems that perceive the external environment, internal state of a vehicle(s), and operator intent.

Responsibilities

  • Design perception system for new autonomous aircraft products.

  • Support the rapid development of innovative prototypes of perception onto real flight applications.

  • Collaborate with external partners, including MIT and other research institutions, to conduct joint research projects.

  • Collaborate with researchers and engineers at Aurora and Boeing to transfer knowledge and technology.

  • Assist in the preparation of R&D proposals and patent applications.

    Minimum Requirements

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Aerospace, Mechanical or related engineering fields, or equivalent experience.

  • Ability to develop and deploy useful perception systems into the real world.

  • Strong background in modern computer vision, mapping, semantic labelling, and SLAM algorithms, systems, and frameworks.

  • Some background in complete autonomy system design, including actuation/propulsion, path planning, decision making, and user interfaces.

  • Coding skills in Python or C++.

  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen or a permanent resident/Green Card holder).

    Desired

  • Understanding of the aerospace industry.

  • Experience writing peer-reviewed publications or project proposals.
