Draper's Perception and Autonomy Group seeks an algorithms and software engineer to help research and create advanced autonomous systems, including vehicles and robots, able to operate in complex environments such as underwater, air, and space. The candidate should have expertise in algorithms development for real-time autonomous systems and be able to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team. The candidate must be able to keep up with the relevant research literature, be involved with the research community, and develop new algorithms and techniques to meet unique program needs.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • PhD in Computer Science/Aerospace Engineering/Electrical Engineering, or similar field, or MS with significant experience

  • Software development experience (Python/C++)

  • Expert knowledge in one of the following areas of algorithm development:

  • task and motion planning

  • computer vision

  • modeling and controls of dynamical systems

  • optimal control

  • optimization and resource allocation for large scale systems of systems

  • machine learning, particularly deep learning

  • Competency with a modern deep learning framework (e.g. PyTorch or TensorFlow), or within the Robot Operating System, depending on focus of research

  • Ability to direct research and lead teams

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Quality conference publications in the field of perception, autonomy, or deep learning

  • Broad robotics experience, especially integration and test with robotics platforms

  • Experience with Linux and embedded systems

  • Experience developing software within an agile framework such as Git
