Draper Laboratory is seeking talented and motivated individuals to tackle challenging engineering problems. As a Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for conceiving solutions for new hardware sensor concepts and integration of communication signals with applications to complex systems for various environments. You will design special communications capabilities for a wide diversity of applications and support strategic business development. You will work in a fast-paced environment, collaborating in multi-disciplinary teams with opportunities to learn, grow and contribute to a variety of projects in this area.
Applicants should possess solid skills designing novel communication signals with experience on rapid prototyping. They should also have deep understanding of wireless communications fundamentals and RF theory, and be able to formulate new waveforms to meet the needs of special communications systems. Applicants will assist in the design, development, modeling & simulation, implementation, and evaluation, of communication signals for transmission, as well as their optimal receiver.
Experience integrating communication and sensor signals with hardware (e.g. transceivers, amplifiers, filters, ADCs, etc.)
Understand RF channels for different applications and environments
Specify architecture and requirements of special communication systems based on application
Developing and implementing digital signal processing algorithms for comms systems
Designing and implementing Software Defined Radio (SDR) based solutions
Modeling and simulating components of a communication system
Performing laboratory experiments and evaluating fieldable prototypes of comms systems
Support business development, write proposals, white papers, and technical documents
Deliver technical presentations to internal and external customers
PhD+2 or MS+6, Electrical Engineering or similar
High level knowledge architecting communication signals and protocols at the PHY and MAC layers, as well as signal processing concepts for communications, detection & estimation theory
Proven track record designing waveforms for various applications and environments
Strong background in wireless communications and deep understanding of RF theory
High level expertise with modeling and simulation tools (e.g. MATLAB)
High level expertise with C++ and Python
Ability to work on fast paced projects, guiding quick-turn experiments and rapid prototyping
Proven successful proposal writing
Experience implementing fieldable prototypes and doing their testing and validation
Experience leading special communications systems design
Experience implementing fieldable prototypes and doing field testing
Experience with programming and prototyping Software Defined Radios (SDRs)
- Active Secret security clearance and ability to acquire Top Secret Level
