Information Technology is seeking an experienced, driven, results-oriented Principal Program Manager to lead the definition and execution of complex business and technology programs, to direct and ensure the successful outcome of those programs and to lead cross-functional teams in their planning, implementation, development and support. This position will champion project submissions for approval across the his/her portfolio, provide end-to-end accountability for the program(s), report on the realization of program benefits and overall status to the Executive Sponsor(s). You will actively lead Governance teams by providing approval, prioritization and recommendations for program delivery. You will work closely with key Stakeholders by communicating and managing expectations, negotiating day to day issue resolution and decisions and ensuring the Program meets defined business outcomes and objectives. This role will determine resource requirements for the Program(s), assemble cross-functional program teams using a matrix management approach, own the overall plan along with risk and change management. You should be fluent in sound software and services architecture, development and deployment models, CI/CD automation, cloud and big data technologies and software service business models & economics.
Lead program definition, planning, and execution of assigned Program(s), which are made up of multiple projects, ensuring critical success factors are defined and monitored and the business objectives are achieved. Including, but not limited to the following:
Developing and managing an integrated program schedule and monitoring and reporting on progress (actual vs. forecast) via the Global Program and Project Reporting process.
Program definition and scoping, owning the program plan and the deliverables required for the program’s success.
Identify dependencies and inter-dependencies between programs along with coordination across all teams involved in the project to successfully scope, size and drive implementation of identified transformation and growth opportunities.
Defining and mobilizing critical program resources.
Managing health status of program(s) to anticipate risks and/or issues and to proactively implement mitigation plans.
Managing budgets and producing monthly forecast and actual reports.
Participation in defining and implementing new policies and procedures.
Proactively managing health status of Program(s) to anticipate risks and/or issues and to proactively implement mitigation plans.
Presenting Program(s) status on a regular basis to senior executives.
About the Team
The Akamai Information Technology organization is a team of industry leading professionals dedicated to owning and driving the innovation of Akamai’s Corporate Infrastructure, Applications, Development and Security for our customers and stakeholders. Information Technology manages all aspects of the program lifecycle as well as the coordination and delivery of key cross-organizational strategic programs, including prioritization, definition, planning, success metrics and ongoing delivery for these initiatives.
Required Education and Experience
- 15 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Management, another related field or its equivalent.
Minimum 12 years of experience in a global Information Technology organization
Minimum 12 years of experience as Program Manager on large business transformation Projects and Program(s). This includes demonstrable experience in:
oSubject matter and domain experience in Big Data, Analytics and Reporting.
oLeading multiple concurrent and interdependent projects, for a sustained period, to achieve a successful and measurable outcome.
oLeading and managing cross matrix; multi-functional; and global teams.
Ability to govern Program(s) and successfully meet goals with tight deadlines/budgets and minimal supervision. Candidate must use one's own initiative to provide robust and timely solutions.
Strong interpersonal & leadership skills with heavy experience working at an executive level and coordinating other senior level multifunctional global stakeholders to achieve an outcome.
Strong presentation and communication skills including ability to effectively communicate ideas in both written and spoken form to executive staff, business sponsors, managers, and technical resources in clear concise language that is appropriate to the target audience.
Strong consulting, facilitation and planning skills including ability to workshop and translate strategy into actionable and resourced plans.
Significant vendor /software evaluation, selection and RFI/RFP experience.
Exceptional change management experience in global organizations.
Line management experience including recruiting, developing, performance management (including offshore teams where required), as well as cohesively managing global teams.
Strong leadership presence with influential skills when negotiating day to day resolutions/issues and decision-making with key senior stakeholders.
Accreditation in a formal Project/Program Management and/or the Change Management methodology.
Experience with various project planning tools JIRA/Confluence, Google, Microsoft Project, Smartsheet.
Experience with leading data governance projects
Working knowledge of most-recent data analytics and visualization techniques and tools such as RStudio and Tableau
Track record creating effective and continuously-updating reporting dashboards
Experiences need to include: data mapping, ETL development and testing, database design, architecture and system mapping (for operational systems and data warehouses / data lakes)
Experience with multiple development methodologies, i.e. Waterfall, Agile, DevOps.
Big 5 consulting experience preferred.
Proficient in business process optimization, defining success metrics and implementing Program Management best practices and standards.
Proficient in risk identification and mitigation.
Experience in the high-tech and / or software industry a plus.
