  • Basic understanding of online learning pedagogical contexts and priorities.

  • Experience with the healthcare industry in the context of a public or private company, government, or other organization.

  • Aptitude for learning and applying new technologies quickly and effectively.

  • Proven track record of effective development of teaching materials.

  • Excellent project management skills.

  • Ability to work consistently and constructively in a fast-paced, highly matrixed environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.

  • Experience with instructional design and/or instructional technology.

  • Familiarity with research methodology and assessment approaches in education.

VPAL partners with schools and faculty to amplify Harvard’s impact worldwide. We deliver online courses on multiple platforms in the spirit of satisfying the widest possible range of student needs and interests.   • Works independently and collaboratively to lead content development for online learning experiences in alignment with VPAL pedagogical, production, technical, research, project management, and administrative practices.

  • Collaborates with Harvard faculty and VPAL team members on the scope of work, curriculum plan, prototype, research, and development of all content within an assigned project.

  • Participates in and contributes to VPAL internal team meetings and projects, as well as activities focused on reflective practice, integration of research, and pedagogical innovation.

  • Creates a wide variety of written content, including expository text, scripts for faculty video recordings, question prompts, and exercises.

  • Analyzes large amounts of existing academic material, synthesizing concepts, and proposing how they can be integrated into the course.

  • Develops cases and expert practitioner stories. Responsible for shaping the integration of the resulting material into the course.

  • Creates or directs the creation of instructional content such as formative and/or summative assessments, interactive activities, audio, video, and text media, and any other relevant instructional materials for the Healthcare Leadership Program learning experience.

  • Contributes to course status reports.

  • Assesses and communicates the status, needs, and risks of assigned project tasks, as assigned and in accordance with VPAL metrics and guidelines.

The Senior Content Developer (SCD) is a key team member and lead content writer for the Health Care Leadership Program team — an emerging VPAL strategic initiative. This person is tasked with the development of high quality, learner-centered, online learning experiences. The SCD requires deep understanding of innovative pedagogy, course development, delivery, and assessment practices.

The ideal SCD candidate is a compelling storyteller with excellent editorial judgment and expertise in leadership and innovation in health care. They will incorporate personal narratives and cases from the health care industry and beyond into online learning sequences that introduce key concepts and skills and provide learners with an opportunity to apply them to their own professional context. The SCD is a creative problem-solver and must have the ability to identify pedagogical and technical solutions and demonstrate prior successful experience working within operating constraints such as budgets and deadlines.

Reporting to the Health Care Leadership Program Manager, the SCD is responsible for creating and/or directing the creation of specific instructional materials that are part of the larger curricular framework of the Health Care Leadership program. This includes researching and writing course text, scripts, and learning sequences. This position will also play a pivotal role in storyboarding for media and interactive materials for case-based teaching and inductive pedagogy. To wit, the role requires the ability to weave narrative stories into curricular materials for increased learner engagement.

The SCD takes ownership for proposing and developing creative approaches to learning while consulting other team members (including faculty) and incorporating their feedback. The SCD has strong project management skills, the diplomacy necessary to work within matrixed teams, and a deep interest in pedagogical and technical applications for online education. The SCD is valued by VPAL team members for their demonstrated commitment to learner-centric design, reflective practice, effective teamwork, and successful project completion.
