Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Data Science, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field strongly preferred
Knowledge of study design, sampling methods, and statistical methods, including longitudinal data analysis strongly preferred
Familiarity with cloud hosting environments (such as AWS, GCP) strongly preferred
Experience with a version control system (such as Github) strongly preferred
Experience with and knowledge of a range of data management and statistical software (such as R) and web-based electronic data capture strongly preferred
The following skills and experiences are also preferred:
Experience with Tangerine or similar data collection platform
Analytical skills to resolve complex problems such as missing data and data quality
Knowledge and adherance to ethical conduct in research and good clinical practice guidelines
Experience writing and deploying cross-platform code (Windows, OS X, and Linux)
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy
Works well independently and takes initiative
High level of maturity and empathy with outstanding interpersonal skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including effectively communicating with non-native English speakers
Experience explaining technical concepts to a non-technical audience
Experience working in low and middle-income countries
Prior mentorship experience, and experience overseeing and prioritizing the work of other staff
Interest in public health and maternal and child health
Experience abiding by and following IT technical standards, policies, and codes of conduct

Data Management:
Lead data coordination and management for studies
Design, develop, and validate databases using application software suitable for supporting research investigations, including large databases and web-based systems
Manage data security and storage
Serve as the expert and leader for data management best practices; collaborate with partners to establish priorities and strategies for resource development and core goal setting, and develop data sharing policies
Manage data sharing and data use protocols
Develop case report forms, data management, and quality study protocols
Report with regular data reviews, quality control checks
Design solutions to resolve queries in the field or laboratories
Develop and implement systems to continuously improve study implementation and data quality
Data Systems:
Lead the data system (Tangerine) and implementation process in collaboration with RTI, taking into account pipeline challenges as well as field needs and realities
Manage data pipeline (flow of data from field to analysis -- data entry, data system, data storage, dashboards, analytical datasets)
Prepare and maintain protocols outlining the development process and data system management
Develop and provide technical assistance in the development, testing, and roll out of new features and system enhancements, including automated reporting
Support data quality improvement through system design and modification
Support the use of adjunct tools for investigation and analysis (bigquery)
Maintain development process schedule
Manage system platform resources and data storage locations
Overall Program Management and Capacity Building:
Oversee and mentor data management and data system staff and partners in the US and Ethiopia
Provide project management support and oversight for the data team
Provide educational support and training on data management and quality to study staff for the development and implementation of research studies
Oversee progress and deliverables tracking for data systems contracts and partnerships
Build research capacity with local partners and conduct workshops and data management courses
Develop relationships with data system partner organizations and serve as the HaSET liaison to consortium-level data system committees
PLEASE NOTE: This position has a term date of 1 year from date of hire, with strong possibility of extension based on the continued availability of funding.

The HaSET (“happiness” in Amharic) Global Maternal and Child Health Research Program at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Boston Children’s Hospital invites applications for a Senior Data and Systems Manager. HaSET works closely with partners in Ethiopia and Ethiopia’s Federal Ministry of Health to generate evidence to improve maternal and child health programs and policies. The Senior Data and Systems Manager will lead data coordination, data management, and data system development and support for the HaSET research program. The position will primarily be responsible for:
Developing, implementing, and managing large databases and data quality procedures
Training and supervising in-country data managers on data cleaning and reporting
Developing and maintaining the HaSET data system and platform (Tangerine) for its current and future studies
Training and supervising in-country developers on feature development, testing, debugging, and deployment
