Our team is part of the Cloud Security organization, responsible for the technologies powering Akamais security products and protecting some of the worlds major internet brands. Working in partnership with other development teams, we design and create highly scalable solutions.

Shape internet security

As a Senior Security Researcher you will focus on researching new trends in web application defense and improving the defensive protections of the Kona Site Defender (KSD) security product, while having access to our Cloud Security Intelligence (CSI) big data platform that holds 130 terabytes daily and 9 petabytes retained attack traffic for analysis.

As a Security Researcher, you will be responsible for:

• Serving as a subject matter expert on web application attacks to help Data Science team enhance detection accuracy

• Researching new web application attacks and Web Application Firewall (WAF) evasion techniques and update WAF logic with new detections

• Gathering and analyzing data to provide solid intelligence and uncover emerging attack trends

• Conducting data mining & big data analysis to deliver security insights on the Akamai Security Intelligence and Threat Research public blog

• Acting as web application security thought leader by speaking with media and presenting as security conferences

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have 8 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent

• Have deep understanding of web application attacks including OWASP Top 10 and beyond

• Be passionate about data analytics and the web security ecosystem

• Have thorough knowledge of main web protocols and application technologies including: HTTP(S), HTTP2, Proxies, XML, JSON, REST APIs

• Have experience in Programming/Scripting (Python, JavaScript, PHP ,Shell scripts and Regular Expressions)

• Have experience in SQL and working with Unix / Linux environments

• Be a team player, able to collaborate, prioritize, and solve problems in a fast changing environment
