Draper is seeking a senior structural analyst to contribute to the design and development of novel solutions to customer driven problems spanning the following areas:
Ruggedized miniature electro-mechanical systems
Systems for harsh environments (e.g. high-g, high temperature, high vibration)
Robotics and autonomous systems
Bio-compatible mechanical systems
Draper’s development efforts in these areas span the development cycle from initial system conceptualization through build and testing of prototype hardware. The ideal candidate must have an interest in designing and fabricating first-of-a-kind electro-mechanical systems that may also include fluidic, aerodynamic, or micromechanical elements. Candidates must be capable of working on dynamic, complex problems as part of cross-functional teams with engineers from other disciplines.
Tasks depend on program priorities, however desired skills include:
Analytical modeling and finite element analysis of complex electro-mechanical systems from a structural survivability standpoint, including static, shock, and vibration environments
Ability to provide insight and suggest design modifications based on analysis outcomes
Ability to effectively communicate results to both expert and non-expert team members and management
Master of Science degree in a relevant field such as mechanical engineering, materials science, or aerospace engineering
7+ years of relevant work experience showing demonstrated program success
Experience with Finite Element Analysis packages, specifically ANSYS and/or Nastran
Experience with 3D CAD, specifically SolidWorks or Creo
Experience with machine shop tools and processes
Experience with considerations for manufacturability, proper drawing creation, and tolerancing
Experience with fabrication and assembly of prototypes and proof-of-concept models
