SOFTWARE DEVELOPER, MIT Press, to design, create, maintain, and update web sites, services, databases, and tools to support the industry-leading digital and print publishing at the MIT Press. Will create databases, code, and tools that meet system and industry standards and review deliverables to ensure project goals are accomplished; analyze performance of programs and take action to correct deficiencies based on consultation with users and approval of supervisor; and document tools, internal processes, and processes involving vendor software.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in a related field; at least years’ relevant programming experience; advanced-level knowledge of IT standards/policies; experience with the LAMP stack and some combination of XML, XSLT, Java, and PHP development; experience with other programming languages/environments/concepts including XPath, XQuery, JavaScript, XML, CSS, SQL, web services, and REST; familiarity with development lifecycles, change management, and operational support; excellent interpersonal, writing, and verbal communication skills; and ability to independently analyze and resolve complex problems, document programs and programming problems and resolutions, direct supporting technical activities (including system and database administration), and work proactively and independently within a cross-functional team. PREFERRED: three years’ experience with web programming and applications development, building publishing and/or scholarly publishing projects, and customizing and implementing XML publishing tools; familiarity with university and research environments; knowledge of information technology and computing applications as implemented in scholarly research services; and domain knowledge of scholarly journal and book publishing.
