Microsoft Corporation Software Engineer II in Cambridge, Massachusetts

The Xamarin division of Microsoft strives to create mobile development tools that people love. Our team is responsible for designing and developing the support for Apple platforms within our Visual Studio family of IDEs on macOS and Windows. We work with an active open source community on a daily basis, sharing experiences and code with mobile developers worldwide.

We have an immediate opening for a Software Development Engineer (SDE) to help us evolve the platform for our users.

  • Ensure that Xamarin’s SDKs outpaces the rapidly evolving requirements in the mobile industry by defining and implementing new features as well as continuously improving the underlying architecture

  • Engage with the community to triage and prioritize issues and suggestions for the product, as well as review and accept contributions from community members

  • Collaborate with teams across Microsoft to guarantee that our SDKs are seamlessly integrated and accessible for developers within the Visual Studio family of IDEs on Mac and Windows


  • BA/BS or MS degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience

  • A year or two of experience programming in C++, C#, Java or other computer programming language.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with a geographically distributed team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some experience building software beyond the classroom environment like an internship or related experience for customers

  • Strong understanding of .NET idioms and design practices

  • Low-level experience with C, Objective-C, or Swift

  • Experience developing on non-Windows operating systems

  • Experience participating in open source projects

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
