As part of this focus, we are looking for an experienced individual to work on Cloud and AI products at Microsoft. Working internally in tight partnership with Cloud and AI engineering product teams to drive sustainable and systemic accessibility within products such as: PowerBI, Dynamics and Azure.
This position is responsible for driving technical enablement in tight partnership with engineering teams, partnering wins and successful deployments and consumption of accessibility solutions. Advising and influencing the accessibility capabilities, building knowledge, process and innovative feature rich products, services, and web. Objective of driving successful accessibility across the company and beyond.
Responsible for the facilitation from customer pipeline (VOC) to conducting solution and compete analysis and working with respective engineering teams to deliver to our customers. Ensuring that accessibility is embedded from origin, leaning on principles of inclusive design and accessibility standards. Driving for equitable, delightful experiences that empower both employees and customers with disabilities. This position will build an inspiring and motivating environment and contribute to investment priorities in this space while partnering across the company to bring expertise together.
We are looking for a passionate individual with a proven track record of improving the user experience for people with disabilities. Ideally, you will have experience implementing accessibility, curating, and incubating inclusive products, and building product strategy and business cases. This individual will work across Cloud and AI to influence product units to deliver products, services, and websites with high quality, as well as influencing external partners.
The Sr. Accessibility Program Manager for Cloud and AI is responsible for driving the partnership and technical enablement with product and service engineering teams. Also, platform design and development areas facilitating accessibility solutions, successful deployments, and consumption. You will drive improving the accessibility of customer experiences across Microsoft, and beyond, with a primary focus on innovation and development, as well as accelerating new product availability and consumption with accessibility standards and usability. This role serves as a technical accessibility resource to engineering, design, and technical program management teams throughout Microsoft. Offering assistance, leadership, and consultation from developer training, product, service, and website evaluations, best practices and more.
Coordinate a virtual team of accessibility, design, and usability specialists within Microsoft engineering teams to enable successful implementations of technology solutions.
Empowering others to advocate on accessibility on behalf of customers across segments.
Build framework strategy that drives accessibility feature pipeline and roadmap for new technology investments and delivery.
Develop and maintain multiple listening and communication channels.
Develop mechanisms to drive feedback and change, to scale across Microsoft.
Work with appropriate external organizations around technical solutions’ accessibility and innovation, including research and staying ahead of industry trends, compete analysis, and best practices.
Use your expertise to guide others’ work, prioritizing technical investments, and contributing to business case strategies to evolve Microsoft’s accessibility strategy.
Ability to position short and long-term solutions that empower EVERY person while connecting big picture, products, and most importantly, the user from concept to execution.
Ability to develop appropriate solution design and drive technical solutions and deployment with accessibility focus.
Ability to provide customer-specific feedback to engineering teams to ensure that customer insights are aggregated and prioritized within future innovation efforts.
Incorporate a deliberate inclusive design approach, with feedback from the team and users to iterate.
Experience in ownership of the design or research process aligned to engineering lifecycle as it relates to Accessibility.
Ability to test accessibility technology in products, services, and website, and clearly articulate the priority, severity, and how to remediate the found issues. Development skills needed.
Provide technical direction and expertise to engineering teams on code, design and applicability in products, services, website features and bugs.
Deep expertise in accessibility designing for user experience with a passion for inclusiveness.
Your main consideration is the overall product experience. Everything you do should aim to improve Accessibility across products/platforms/services.
Be recognized and act as an accessibility and usability subject matter authority for product, services, and web accessibility experiences, staying ahead of industry trends and best practices.
The role can be based in any one of our office locations or be fully remote.
A Bachelor's degree AND 4+ years of accessibility experience on both consumer/enterprise products and assisted technologies, such as screen readers, switch access and other accessible technologies OR 7+ years of experience working in software industry experience or equivalent industry work experience.
Knowledge of current and future accessibility guidelines (such as Section 508 and WCAG 2.1) and technologies (such as ARIA and accessible dHTML).
Demonstrated track record of identifying and developing solutions for user experiences.
Previous experience launching initiatives from general directional goals to successful operations delivering and exceeding expectations.
Experience working with the technology development teams to support development in their products both internal and external.
Ability to position the customer and partner value proposition of technical solutions, including but not limited to executive briefings and solid showcase presentation experience.
Proven influence in adoption of new technology, product, and services.
Experience presenting technical and/or accessibility issues and solutions to decision makers.
Ability to implement both strategy and technical needs of the business.
Experience preferably driving large software engineering products in both leadership and IC roles.
BS/BA degree, MS/MBA preferred in computer science, engineering. Ideal work experience would include all the following: Accessibility, technical consulting, solution design, project envisioning, plan deployment, and leadership.
Critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, strong track record of solving complex problems.
Experience delivering product, website, on-line or cloud services is a plus.
Human centered design or user experience design background is a plus.
Experience frequently and directly interacting with customers is a plus.
Experience with change management and scaling solutions is a plus.
