Biogen Sr. Manager, R&D Business Operations in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Working under the direction of the Business Operations Lead, the Sr. Business Operations Partner will support the operational activities around budget and resource management to enable proactive resourcing decisions ensuring consistency within GSRS. This role is responsible for identifying and implementing process and technical improvements. This role will be called upon to regularly engage senior-level stakeholders (VP, Sr. Dir, and Directors), participating on the GSRS sub-function leadership teams. The Sr. Business Operations Partner for GSRS must be proficient and confident presenting complex business details and building consensus with VP and VP-1,2 level audiences. They will provide direction to the teams, provide expertise, and directly contribute to the operations implementation strategy for GSRS. In partnership with HR, TA, and Finance this role will provide processes and support to identify resourcing needs and resourcefulness in meeting the GSRS functional needs of the portfolio. They will be accountable for implementing business process for the functional reporting of resource data. They will also be able to anticipate and describe decision & support needs of senior stakeholders in the sub-functions. This role requires an in-depth understanding of R&D and the Drug Development business process. This role is accountable for and focused on implementing operational, financial, and resourcing needs and initiatives for the sub-functions. Specific responsibilities include: Global Safety and Regulatory Sciences support · Participate in GSRS sub-function Leadership team meetings, along with Finance to align current-status and trajectory of budget and resources · Facilitate resourcing/budget discussions on near term and long-term priorities · Partner with subfunction LTs to define and monitor capacity and identify emerging issues · Support effective decision-making, based on an awareness of issues and key business drivers · Conduit into R&D Strategy, Planning, Operations, and Communications for the function to identify and advocate for function needs Business Planning Implementation · Implement the business planning and analysis strategies within GSRS · Implement regular reporting and analytical cycle for the GSRS sub-functions (such as AOP, resource allocation reports, CapEx) · Partner with the GSRS Resource Managers in coordinating a standardized approach for GSRS · Provide and analyze data for resource management reporting, dashboards · Ensure budgets and schedules meet organization requirements and standards · Anticipate functional needs and drive spending · Partner with Procurement and contract management teams · Partner with Finance, HR, TA, EAs, Portfolio Directors on headcount, resource planning and prioritization Optimization/Initiatives Implementation · Responsible for implementing key efforts to improve business practices and processes to maximize resources and achieve operational excellence · Proactively implement of strategic process improvement efforts and remove roadblocks for GSRS · Align to overall resourcing goals and reporting templates and processes • 5-10 years operational experience working in Finance, R&D, project teams, or other biotech/pharma. Focus on R&D business operations and Safety and Regulatory Science experience preferred. • Trustworthy, reliable, emotional intelligence, collaborative, detail oriented, resourceful, analytical skills, self-motivation, and learning mindset. • Highly collaborative, broad thinker with a strong attention to detail • Proactive and able to react quickly • Ability to work within matrix and influence without authority through formal channels and informal network; ability to negotiate with Sr. Leaders • Ability to work with agility, taking multi-faceted approaches to transfer knowledge and know-how, and form teams for follow-through • Financial acumen, with an ability to evaluate budgets, accounting, and business case development • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; high level of organizational and planning skills • Ability to articulate complex technical details, public speaking, and message tailoring to the audience. • Ability to work on teams as well as work independently to drive organizational processes • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook * * Education: Bachelor’s degree.
