As the Technical Lead Compute Engineer, you will be responsible for the smooth and reliable deployments of software and systems while fostering and aligning innovative approaches for new and existing operating system, virtualization and HPC technologies. You will offer coordination and guidance to the compute engineering teams and will focus on aligning technology road-maps and solutions with the overall strategy.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Understand existing compute systems architecture and solution design, work with the compute engineers to design improvements and changes

• Develop and document proper standards, review code and establish best practices

• Ensure cost effective solutions are implemented that are stable, scalable, secure and supportable

• Ensure new processes are documented, so that knowledge is passed on accurately

• Aim for high degrees of automation and self-service to minimize support and maintenance costs

Technical Lead Compute Engineering

Minimum requirements:

What you’ll bring to the role (Requirements):

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Informatics or similar, or equivalent practical experience

• Minimum of 10 years infrastructure engineering and systems development experience with a minimum of 3 years in a project management lead role and 3 years minimum with IaaS and PaaS based solutions

• Good interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills. Ability to look at the big picture, architectural thinking level, great listener and open minded for ideas from other people

• Experience with configuration management tools like Chef, Puppet or Ansible. Knowledge of DevOps + Cloud technologies including infrastructure-as-code and immutable infrastructure patterns

• Prior hands on experience in one or more of the following environments: Enterprise Linux, Windows Server, VMWare ESX and / or HPC environments

• Desire to constantly challenge and improve the current status, interested in testing new assumptions and trends

• Strong organizational, problem-solving and influencing skills, proven track record of outstanding collaboration

Desirable requirements:

• Prior experience with AWS and Azure services

It is responsible for building powerful, functional, beautiful, and secure scientific and IT software solutions that accelerate scientific research and deliver a fully integrated and friction-less user experience. The Engineering department is also responsible for providing engineering resources that create and maintain these software solutions in line with the priorities and road-maps defined by the product teams and our business partners.
