Editas Medicine Vice President of Information Technology - 2201 in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:


  • Own and develop IT vision and roadmap, working closely with the business to align and integrate their respective strategies.

  • Responsible for the development and on-going management of the IT budget

  • Assess and make recommendations for improvements relative to enterprise data, architecture strategy and manage enterprise-wide storage, backup, integration, and accessibility of data, including disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

  • Establish data management strategy and policies in conjunction with various functional teams.

IT Governance

  • Establish Project Management capabilities to apply rigor to portfolio analysis (including sequencing of projects), budgeting & planning, tracking and resolving issues, risks and dependencies across projects and programs, coordinating executive communications/status reporting and coordinating resource management and staffing needs.

  • Establish the strong working relationships with senior leaders, operations and technology management, in the capacity of a trusted advisor on IT matters.

  • Engage the business and process owners and lead the collaborative planning effort to leverage emerging technologies for addressing strategic enterprise goals.

  • Communicate the practical implications of system selection and implementation, architectural decisions, issues and plans to senior management.

  • Implement appropriate vendor management models.


  • Define the IT Organization structure and resource needs.

  • Recruit, retain and coach/mentor personnel.

  • Evaluate and determine balance between insourced and outsourced IT service models.


  • Development, oversight and enforcement of IT policies, procedures and associated plans for security, desktops and infrastructure based on industry-standard best practices.

  • Defining, implementing and maintaining appropriate Information Solution LifeCycle management and IT Change Control for regulated systems including but not limited to: SOX, GxP, and GDPR requirements.


  • Responsible for day-to-day operations of global network, storage, security, enterprise architecture and telecommunications infrastructure (including phone and video conferencing).


Knowledge, Skills & Capabilities:

  • Demonstrated experience effectively collaborating and communicating with a variety of audiences and stakeholders including, but not limited to, Executive and Senior Management, Business Leaders/Managers and external customers/vendors.

  • Demonstrated experience developing, leading and supporting an IT vision and direction including demonstrated experience developing long- and short-term strategic IT plans, developing the associated financial analyses and translating budgeted plans into tactical, actionable, and operational initiatives.

  • Demonstrated experience analyzing problems and resolving conflicts.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing, coaching and developing direct reports.

  • Experience facilitating the development and implementation of strategic leadership and management capabilities within his/her team to develop, coach, and manage the performance of a team to achieve goals and objectives.

  • Experience working in fast-paced environments and meeting tight reporting deadlines.

  • Excellent communicator, both written and oral, to act as a cross-functional business partner.

  • Highly detail oriented, with an analytical approach to supporting the strategic decision-making process.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience developing and maintaining effective relationships in diverse organizations.

  • Experience working independently and meeting deadlines.

Education & Relevant Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field. MBA a plus.

  • 15+ years managing the information technology/information system function

  • Prior management experience in a development stage pharmaceutical, biotechnology or related environment, including infrastructure and platform development for the organization.
