HNTB Electrical Engineering Intern- Signal and Train Control Intern in Chelmsford, Massachusetts
What We're Looking For
HNTB, one of the largest and most respected design firms in the transportation industry, is seeking (Signal) Engineer candidates in our Chelmsford, MA office.
Signal systems provide control that allow for switching and safe movement of railway traffic. HNTB is a leader in this field within the United States in all facets, from initial planning, through technical design, project management and through to construction support.
HNTB Signal team is actively involved in providing services for transportation agencies across the country. This type of work involves laying out block designs for railways based on train performance criteria and operational needs, development of circuits to control signal lighting, switch machines, and other wayside devices for mainline operation and within rail yards. HNTB is also involved in designing of microprocessor and relay-based interlockings, as well as the design of highway grade crossing warning systems in accordance with state and federal regulations.
This is for an intern Electrical engineer who will be actively involved in all aspects of the HNTB signal team assisting in the preparation of design calculations, drawings, specifications, engineering cost estimates, and field support for various rail projects.
Relocation and housing are not provided for this position.
What You’ll Do:
Assists engineer teams in various tasks and duties.
Assists Engineer with research, development and design of projects.
Assists Engineer with the preparation of engineering drawings and documents as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need:
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary engineering program
What You’ll Bring:
Successful applicant would, under supervision of department engineers:
Become a key member of the production staff using CAD (AutoCAD or Microstation), Excel spreadsheets and specialist software to support the preparation and modification of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.
Perform basic engineering tasks related to the work and education level of the applicant.
Develop basic understanding of key areas of the work and start to apply these principles to support production of engineering designs
Work efficiently and effectively as part of a larger team.
Support engineering teams with various tasks and duties including but not limited to research, data collection, field investigations, development, and design of projects.
Be innovative and pro-active with good communications skills.
Take direction of Senior department staff while continuing learning and development, in an active production environment.
What We Prefer:
Completion of 2 years of post-secondary engineering program in Electrical Engineering
Experience with Autocad, Microstation
Experience with Microsoft suite of tools e.g. Powerpoint, MS Office, Excel, Word
