State of Massachusetts Computer Operator I in Chelsea, Massachusetts

Overview A&F IT is an agency under the Executive Office for Administration & Finance which serves as the IT liaison for 22 A&F entities across the Commonwealth. A&F IT oversees and provides all the IT application support for these agencies to ensure their IT operations are running effectively and efficiently. The Electronic Computer Operator I receive direction and training from the Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor in the day-to-day (7x24) Data Center operations. These responsibilities include but are not limited to: ensuring all batch jobs, system monitoring, and backup processing are being successfully performed and following troubleshooting, escalation procedures and event recording should issues arise. Additionally, this person will assist with managing DOR’s enterprise high-speed printing environment to ensure that all print SLAs are being met. Responsibilities Specifically, the Electronic Computer Operator I will: * Perform all batch monitoring and network/infrastructure monitoring. * Perform all DOR print output duties including properly printing output to include validating barcodes, OMR and filenames. * Ensure all DOR print output is load balanced for efficiency. * Monitor and troubleshoot any tape drive issues and ensure sufficient tapes are available for use. * Ensure all failures/issues are escalated to the Supervisor and/or Assistant Supervisor. * Ensure all job documentation and procedures are followed accurately and bring any updates needed to the Supervisor’s attention when required. * Provide excellent customer service including interacting professionally with customers, other support teams and coworkers at all times. * Perform ANF IT Disaster Recovery Testing. * Perform all related duties as required * Participate in special projects as assigned Employees in this position are required to work 3-day work week, including rotating shifts every 6 months. The primary work location is MITC at 200 Arlington Street, Chelsea. In the event of a disaster affecting the primary data center, the work location is the second data center on 53 Elliot Street in Springfield. The rotating schedule is: * Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 7AM – 8PM * Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 7PM – 8AM * Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 7AM – 8PM * Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 7PM – 8AM Preferred qualifications include hands-on working knowledge of TWS batch scheduler, Pega Diagnostic Cloud tool, Veritas NetBackup, Xerox Freeflow Server, SiteScope, BSM and MoveIT secure file transfer. First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in electronic data processing work, the major duties of which included the operation of the console of a computer and/or the peripheral devices used in support of computer operations, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions: I. An Associate's degree or higher with a major in the field of data processing may be substituted for the required experience.* II. A diploma for completion of a one year full-time, or equivalent part-time, program in a recognized non-degree granting business or vocational/ technical school above the high school level with a major in the field of data processing may be substituted for the required experience.* III. An official transcript from a recognized business or technical/ vocational school as evidence of completion of at least 9 semester hours of instruction (or the equivalent in classroom and/or laboratory hours) in computer programming/ operation may be substituted for the required experience. IV. Graduation from the data processing course of a recognized vocational/technical high school may be substituted for the required experience. Education toward such a degree or diploma will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
